IEC 63341-2:2025 applies to on-board hydrogen fuel systems (HFSs) used to supply the fuel cells for the traction power and the auxiliaries supply of railway vehicles (such as hybrid vehicles as defined in IEC 62864-1).
This document applies to hydrogen storage in gaseous form. Other means of storage (such as liquid, liquid cryo-compressed, metal hydrides) are not covered in this document.
This document applies to any rolling stock type (e.g. light rail vehicles, tramways, streetcars, metros, commuter trains, regional trains, high speed trains, locomotives).

IEC 63341-1:2025 applies to fuel cell power systems installed onboard rolling stock for railway applications (e.g. light rail vehicles, tramways, streetcars, metros, commuter trains, regional trains, high speed trains, locomotives). Fuel cell power systems specified in this document are used for the traction power and the auxiliary supply of railway vehicles such as hybrid vehicles, and in case of use as an auxiliary onboard power source. This document applies to the fuel cell technology called proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), with the use of hydrogen as fuel source and the use of air as oxidant source. This document does not apply for hydrogen fuel system which is specified in IEC 63341-2, as HFS is not within the scope of this document. This document does not apply for power conversion equipment which is specified in IEC 61287-1 and is not within the scope this document.

IEC 62278-2:2025 considers the safety-related generic aspects of the RAMS life cycle and defines methods and tools which are independent of the actual technology of the systems and subsystems.
This document provides:
a) methods for the understanding of the systems approach to safety which is a key concept of IEC 62278;
b) methods to derive the safety requirements and their safety integrity requirements for the system and to apportion them to the subsystems;
c) methods to derive the safety integrity levels (SIL) for the safety-related electronic functions;
d) guidance and methods for the following areas:
1) safety process;
2) safety demonstration and acceptance;
3) organization and independence of roles;
4) risk assessment;

This document specifies:
a) a process, based on the system life cycle and tasks within it, for managing RAMS;
b) a systematic process, tailorable to the type and size of the system under consideration, for specifying requirements for RAMS and demonstrating that these requirements are achieved.
This document does not specify:

IEC 63536:2025 specifies minimum functional requirements for urban rail signalling and control systems (for use in urban guided passenger transport lines and networks)
- which operate on line-of-sight or using automatic interlock signalling with intermittent supervision,

IEC 62590-1:2025 specifies the common requirements and definitions for all power converter applications in fixed installations for power supply of railway systems.
This document applies to fixed installations of following electric traction systems:
railway networks,
metropolitan transport networks including metros, tramways, trolleybuses and fully automated transport systems, magnetic levitated transport systems, electric road systems.
This document applies to AC/DC converters, DC converters and AC converters. Converters for improvement of power quality and for energy saving are also included.

IEC 62425:2025 is applicable to safety-related electronic systems (including subsystems and equipment) for railway signalling applications. This document applies to generic systems (i.e. generic products or systems defining a class of applications), as well as to systems for specific applications. The scope of this document, and its relationship with other IEC and CENELEC standards, are shown in Figure 1. This document is applicable only to the functional safety of systems. It does not deal with other aspects of safety such as the occupational health and safety of personnel. While functional safety of systems clearly can have an impact on the safety of personnel, there are other aspects of system design which can also affect occupational health and safety and which are not covered by this document. Cybersecurity aspects of functional safety are addressed only to a limited extent. This document applies to all the phases of the life cycle of a safety-related electronic system, focusing in particular on phases 5 (architecture and apportionment of system requirements) to 10 (system acceptance) as defined in IEC 62278-1: -
Requirements for systems which are not related to safety are outside the scope of this document. This document is not applicable to existing systems, subsystems or equipment which had already been accepted prior to the development of this document. However, so far as reasonably practicable, it is applicable to modifications and extensions to existing systems, subsystems and equipment. This document is primarily applicable to systems, subsystems or equipment which have been specifically designed and manufactured for railway signalling applications. a) a better alignment with the life cycle phases defined in IEC 62278-1 has been made;
b) Clause 5 describes the requirements that apply to the development of safety-related electronic systems (until phase 9 of the life cycle);
c) Clause 8 focuses on the requirements for safety acceptance and approval of safety-related electronic systems and subsequent phases;
d) requirements and guidance have been added in Clause 6 on the following topics:

IEC 62290-2:2025 specifies the functional requirements of UGTMS (urban guided transport management and command/control systems) for use in urban guided passenger transport lines and networks. This document is applicable for new lines or for upgrading existing signalling and command control systems.
The IEC 62290 series specifies the functional, system and interface requirements for the command, control, and management systems intended to be used on urban, guided passenger transport lines and networks.
These systems are designated herein as urban guided transport management and command/control systems (UGTMS). UGTMS cover a wide range of operations needs from non-automated (GOA1) to unattended (GOA4) operation. A line may be equipped with UGTMS on its full length or only partly equipped.
The IEC 62290 series does not specifically address security issues. However, aspects of safety requirements may apply to ensuring security within the urban guided transit system.
The main objectives of this series are as follows:
* to provide a baseline system description and functional requirements specification for a transport authority to use in a request for proposal,
* to provide recommendations for those transport authorities wishing to acquire an interoperable or interchangeable system.
It is the responsibility of the transport authority concerned to decide on how to apply the IEC 62290 series and to take into account their particular needs.
This document is applicable to applications using
* continuous data transmission,
* continuous supervision of train movements by train protection profile, and
* localisation of trains by onboard UGTMS equipment (reporting trains), and optionally by external wayside (and optionally onboard) device.
In this document, the functional requirements set the framework to which detailed functions are added to define any generic or specific application.
Because of that, although this document is applicable as a basis to define SRS, FIS and FFFIS, elements can be added for a generic or specific application.
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2014. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) the functions 5.1.4.5 Stopping a train en route, 5.1.5.4 Monitor speed limit at discrete location, 5.5.5 Manage UGTMS transfer tracks, 5.6.4.1 Monitor passenger emergency calls and 6.2.4 Ensure connecting services have been deleted;

g) an informative annex giving the reader some user’s recommendations about this document has been added;
h) another informative annex giving some typical performance-related criteria has been also added.
i) an informative annex providing a summary of applicability of functions and subfunctions (mandatory or optional) depending on GOA has been added.
In order to avoid any disturbance in the use of the document, when functions or requirements of IEC 62290‑2:2014 have been deleted, their numberings have been kept on purpose in this document. The expression "Deleted" is indicated at the place of the former headlines of the deleted functions, or at the place of the wording of the deleted requirements. Therefore, the impacts on any existing references or traceability matrices defined previously to this third edition is limited as much as possible.
