Battery charging interface for small handheld multimedia devices - Part 1: 2 mm barrel interface
IEC 62637-1:2011 defines a charging interface between small handheld multimedia devices and power-supply accessories, specifically chargers. Devices, which could be based on this standard may vary over time, but have to comply with the limited power available. The interface is a 2 mm barrel type charging interface. The French version of this standard has not been voted upon. This bilingual version (2011-07) replaces the English version.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
agreement between the two organizations.

1 Scope
This part of IEC 62637 defines a charging interface between small handheld multimedia
devices and power-supply accessories, specifically chargers. Devices, which could be based
on this standard may vary over time, but have to comply with the limited power available .
The interface is a 2 mm barrel type charging interface. This standard does not include the
whole charger nor does it include the internal functions of the device. Chargers and devices
shall follow the applicable EMC and safety standards. The scope of this part of IEC 62637 is
illustrated in Figure 1.
