This standard specifies the method to be used for visual examination to assess surface discontinuities of steel castings produced in conventional sand moulds. A set of visual comparators(1) comprising replicas of actual casting discontinuities forms the basis of the assessment. This standard does not apply to steel castings made by the resin-shell, investment and other precision moulding techniques. This standard defines several categories of discontinuities and severity levels within each of these categories.

Die vorliegende Norm legt das Verfahren fest, die zur visuellen Bestimmung von in herkömmlichen Sandformen hergestellten Stahlgußstücken anzuwenden ist, um Oberflächenfehler zu bewerten. Eine Garnitur von Vergleichsmustern (1) mit echten Abdrucken von tatsächlichen Gußstückfehlern dient als Grundlage für die Bewertung. Diese Norm gilt nicht für Stahlgußstücke, die nach dem Maskengießverfahren, Feingießverfahren und sonstigen Genaugießverfahren hergestellt werden. Die Norm legt verschiedene Kategorien von Fehlern und Gütestufen innerhalb dieser Kategorien fest.

La présente norme spécifie la méthode à utiliser pour l'examen visuel des piècesmoulées en acier produites dans des moules de sable conventionnels, afin d'évaluer les discontinuités de surface. Un ensemble de comparateurs visuels (1) comprenant les répliques des discontinuités réelles des pièces moulées constitue la base de l'évaluation. La présente norme ne s'applique pas aux pièces moulées en acier fabriquées au moyen de moulage en carapace, de précision et autres techniques de moulage.
