Frequently Asked Questions
ICS 21.060.10 is a classification code in the International Classification for Standards (ICS) system. It covers "Bolts, screws, studs". The ICS is a hierarchical classification system used to organize international, regional, and national standards, facilitating the search and identification of standards across different fields.
There are 1019 standards classified under ICS 21.060.10 (Bolts, screws, studs). These standards are published by international and regional standardization bodies including ISO, IEC, CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI.
The International Classification for Standards (ICS) is a hierarchical classification system maintained by ISO to organize standards and related documents. It uses a three-level structure with field (2 digits), group (3 digits), and sub-group (2 digits) codes. The ICS helps users find standards by subject area and enables statistical analysis of standards development activities.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements of hexagon and square-head zinc-coated steel bolts and atmospheric corrosion-resistant bolts for use in the construction of transmission towers, substations, and similar steel structures. The following types of bolts are: Type 0 includes hot-dip zinc-coated bolts made of low or medium carbon steel, Type 1 includes hot-dip zinc-coated bolts made of medium carbon steel, quenched and tempered, Type 2, and Type 3 includes bare, quenched, and tempered bolts made of weathering steel. Steel for the manufacture of bolts shall be made by any of the following processes: open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen. Type 1 bolts produced from medium carbon steel shall be quenched in a liquid medium from above the austenizing temperature. Type 1 bolts produced from medium carbon steel to which chromium, nickel, molybdenum, or boron were intentionally added shall be quenched only in oil from above the austenitizing temperature. Type 3 bolts shall be quenched only in oil from above the austenitizing temperature. Cold-headed Type 0 bolts shall be stress relief annealed before zinc coating to remove cold work effects such that the hardness measured anywhere on the surface or through the cross-section shall meet the requirement specified. Different tests shall be conducted in order to determine the following mechanical properties of bolts: hardness, tensile strength, and shear strength.
SCOPE

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements for stainless steel metric hexagon socket button (SBHCS) and flat countersunk (SFHCS) head cap screws with nominal thread M 3 through M 20 intended for use in applications requiring general corrosion resistance. These steels are designated into three classes: Austenitic Class A 1-50 in an annealed condition, Austenitic Class A1-55 in a cold worked condition, and Austenitic Class A 1-70 in a cold worked condition. The austenitic stainless steel socket screw shall be designated F879M A1-50, F879M A1–55, or F 879M A1-70. Screws shall be formed by upsetting or extruding, or both. Also, these screws shall be roll threaded. Austenitic alloys ClassA 1-50 screws, following manufacture, shall be annealed by heating to a certain temperature to obtain maximum corrosion resistance and minimum permeability. The screws shall be held for a sufficient time at temperature, then cooled at a rate sufficient to prevent precipitation of the carbide and provide the properties specified. Different tests shall be conducted in order to determine the following mechanical properties of screws: tensile strength, minimum extension, yield strength, elongation, Vickers hardness, and Rockwell hardness.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the chemical and mechanical requirements for stainless steel inch hexagon socket button (SBHCS), flat countersunk (SFHCS) head cap screws with nominal thread 0.060 through 0.625 in. and low head (SLHCS) cap screws with nominal thread 0.112 through 0.625 in. intended for use in applications requiring general corrosion resistance.

This document specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket button head screws with collar, with reduced loadability due to head design, in steel, with metric coarse pitch threads M3 to M16, and with product grade A.
If in certain cases other specifications are requested, dimensional options can be selected from ISO 888 or ISO 4753.
NOTE The reduced loadability (related to the head dimensions in combination with penetration of the hexagon socket specified in this document) implies a limitation of ultimate tensile load shown by a specific marking (property class preceded by a zero). The loadability in the head is assumed to be 80 % of that in the thread for all sizes and all property classes, see Table 4.

This document specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket countersunk flat head screws with reduced loadability due to head design, in steel and stainless steel, with metric coarse pitch threads M2 to M10, and with product grade A.
If in certain cases other specifications are requested, stainless steel grades can be selected from ISO 3506‑1, and dimensional options from ISO 888 or ISO 4753.
NOTE 1 The reduced loadability (related to the countersunk head dimensions in combination with penetration of the hexalobular socket specified in this document) implies a limitation of ultimate tensile load shown by a specific marking (property class preceded by a zero). The loadability in the head is assumed to be 80 % of that in the thread for all sizes and all property classes; see Table 3.
NOTE 2 Hexalobular socket countersunk head screws (high head), with full loadability are specified in ISO 14582, but these products are not interchangeable, because of different head heights.
NOTE 3 Particular attention is needed to ensure alignment of the countersunk head with the bearing surface of the countersink in the assembly.

This document is applicable to the selection of bolting for flanged joints on equipment subject to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU.
It specifies standards and additional requirements for dimensions, material properties and technical conditions of delivery for bolting.
NOTE 1 Washers are not within the scope of this document.
The selection is based on commonly used bolting. It covers common temperature ranges of the general service of flanges.
When selecting bolting according to this document it is essential to take into account environmental conditions and other parameters including type of fluids, corrosion hazards, sour service, low temperature brittle failure and relaxation at elevated temperatures.
The purpose of this document is to provide a selection of most commonly used bolting types and bolting material combinations.
It is not the intention to specify all possible applications but to give guidance on the most common applications. For example, application limits for material in the creep range are not explicitly covered in this document. Where material standard provides mechanical properties for the creep range respective reference is made in Table 3.
NOTE 2 Special services and ambient conditions may require the application of coatings. It is the purchaser’s option to decide on this. Depending on the coating used, a verification of the temperature ranges given in Table 3 and Table 4 may be required.
NOTE 3 In Annex B there are bolting types and bolting material combinations according to commonly used national standards other than those listed in Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4.

ABSTRACT
This practice covers bolt and stud bolt lengths, quantities, and thread series for pipe to pipe and pipe to valve flanged joints. This specification presents tables of bolting lengths for different steel flanged joints.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers bolt and stud bolt lengths, quantities, and thread series for pipe to pipe and pipe to valve flanged joints (Note 1) in the nominal pipe size ranges of 1/2 in. through 48 in. (12.7 mm through 1219 mm) diameter and pressure range of 125 psi through 2500 psi (0.8 kPa through 17 236 kPa).
Note 1: This is applicable when flange of valve has the same thickness as mating flange.
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
