This document specifies mathematical symbols, explains their meanings, and gives verbal equivalents and applications.
This document is intended mainly for use in the natural sciences and technology, but also applies to other areas where mathematics is used.

This part of IEC 60027 is applicable to telecommunications and electronics. It gives names
and symbols for quantities and their units.

This part of ISO 1043 provides uniform symbols for components of terms relating to plasticizers to
form abbreviated terms. It includes, in general, only those abbreviated terms that have come into
established use.
The purpose of this part of ISO 1043 is to prevent the occurrence of more than one abbreviated term
for a given plasticizer. The symbols are primarily intended to be convenient shorthand for forming
abbreviated terms for chemical names in publications and other written matter.

This part of the standard identifies the information required to be marked on coaches, motive power units, locomotives and On Track Machines, relating to their technical and operational characteristics. ISO 17769-1:2012 specifies terms, letter symbols and units related to the flow of liquids through rotodynamic and positive displacement liquid pumps and associated installations. ISO 15241:2012 establishes the presentation of symbols for physical quantities (dimensions, dimensional tolerances, accuracy, load ratings, life, etc.) in the field of rolling bearings. These symbols are primarily intended for use in International Standards and ISO documents relating to rolling bearings, but they are also suitable for use in other printed materials, such as handbooks, illustrations/drawings and pamphlets.

This part of IEC 62595 gives preferred terms, their definitions and symbols for backlight unit (BLU) and related display panel lighting systems including frontlight; with the object of using the same terminology when publications are prepared in different countries.
