This document specifies requirements and recommendations for the attachments and associated equipment of pilot ladders, and gives guidance on their use. It is applicable, but not limited to, securing ladders at less than full length, deck securing points, hull securing equipment, man-ropes, bulwark openings and accesses, deck access, stanchions, anti-chafing arrangements, and interfaces between pilot ladders and accommodation ladders for their combined use.

This document specifies requirements and characteristics of ships’ pilot ladder winch reels provided with hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, or manual drive. It is applicable to the design and test of pilot ladder winch reels. It does not include requirements for the prime mover used to operate the pilot ladder winch reels. Pilot ladder winch reels specified in this document are intended to be only used with pilot ladders conforming to ISO 799-1. They are not intended to be used for ‘man lifting’ activities.

This document provides requirements and recommendations for the maintenance, use, storage, and inspection of pilot ladders.

This document specifies requirements for pilot ladders of a ship, which are provided to enable a maritime pilot to embark and disembark from a ship safely against a vertical portion of the ship's hull. It is applicable to merchant ships which embark and disembark maritime pilots with the ship underway.

ISO 7364:2016 specifies requirements and characteristics of ships' accommodation ladder winches provided with hydraulic, pneumatic, electric or manual drive. ISO 7364:2016 is applicable to the design and test of accommodation ladder winches. ISO 7364:2016 does not include requirements for the prime mover used to operate the winch.

ISO 5488:2015 specifies requirements and the method of test for accommodation ladders used on merchant ships (excluding passenger ships) to enable crew and pilots to embark and disembark safely. ISO 5488:2015 is applicable to the design, manufacturing and testing of accommodation ladders as well as accommodation ladder used specifically in combination with pilot ladder (hereinafter referred as "pilot accommodation ladder").

ISO 7061:2015 specifies requirements for aluminium shore gangways. ISO 7061:2015 applies to gangways designed to be carried on board ships, to provide a lightweight, convenient and safe means of access from ship to shore, for use primarily by the ship's crew. These gangways may also be used for access from ship to ship when conditions are favourable. ISO 7061:2015 applies to gangways suitable for use horizontally or inclined up to an angle of 30° from the horizontal. For angles of inclination less than 55°, special consideration of the design of steps and decking may be necessary. The gangways to which this International Standard applies are not intended to carry wheeled traffic such as loaded trolleys. Users of this International Standard, while observing its requirements, should, at the same time, ensure compliance with any statutory requirements, rules and regulations, applicable to the individual ship concerned.

ISO 5489:2007 specifies requirements for a ship's embarkation ladder that is provided to enable safe embarkation of waterborne survival craft along a vertical portion of the ship's hull. It is applicable to merchant ships required to carry embarkation ladders under Chapter III of the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as amended. National maritime safety administrations are urged to accept ladders complying with this International Standard on their ships, as complying fully with the requirements of SOLAS.

ISO 799:2004 specifies requirements for a ship's pilot ladder which is provided to enable a maritime pilot to embark and disembark a ship safely along a vertical portion of the ship's hull. It is applicable to merchant ships which embark and disembark maritime pilots with the ship underway. National maritime safety administrations are urged to accept ladders complying with ISO 799:2004 on their ships, as complying fully with the requirements of the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as amended.

Relates to the marking of escape routes on board of ferries, passenger ships cargo ships etc.. Signs and posters which are used as marking are classified into categories in terms of purpose.

Specifies requirements (dimensions, materials, design and construction, quality of manufacture, test methods, marking, inspection, designation) for gangways suitable for use horizontally or inclined up to an angle of 30° from the horizontal and designed to be carried on board ships, to provide a lightweight, convenient and safe means of access from ship to shore, for use primarily by the ship's crew which may also be used for access from ship to ship but are not intended to carry wheeled traffic.

Specifies dimensions, materials, construction, designation and marking.

Specifies requirements for a ship's pilot ladder which is provided for a pilot to embark and disembark safely.

Specifies requirements and characteristics of lightly powered winches provided with electric, hydraulic or pneumatic drive, and unpowered winches. Does not include requirements for the prime mover used to operate the winch.

Specifies requirements and the method of test for accomodation ladders used on merchant ships (excluding passenger ships). The requirements are applicable to either single-flight or multi-flight ladders.
