ISO/TC 127/SC 4 - Terminology, commercial nomenclature, classification and ratings

This document defines terms for levels of automation and autonomy (LAA), thereby establishing the taxonomy describing the levels of automation and autonomy (LAA). This document does not provide specifications or requirements on automated operating systems defined herein. This document applies to earth-moving machinery (EMM) as defined in ISO 6165[1].

This document provides vocabulary and an identification structure for classifying earth-moving machinery designed to perform the following operations: — excavation; — loading; — transportation; — drilling, spreading, compacting or trenching of earth, rock and other materials, during work, for example, on roads and dams, in quarries and mines and on building sites. The purpose of this document is to provide a clear means to identify earth-moving machinery according to its function and design configurations which can include additional classifications according to its operating mass and control operator configuration. Annex A provides a procedure based on the identification structure used by this document to classify the machinery and introduce detailed identifications consistent with the logic implied by the structure. Annex B provides a hierarchy of the operator control configurations for earth-moving machinery.

This document establishes the terminology and content of commercial specifications for hydraulic breakers which are mounted as an attachment on a carrier, typically earth-moving machinery such as an excavator, backhoe loader, skid steer loader, and compact loader as defined in ISO 6165; or mounted on a rig, pedestal boom system, demolition robot, etc., at the end of an arm. Hydraulic breakers are typically used to demolish or break rock, concrete, brickwork, asphalt, etc. This document does not cover breakers powered by pneumatic, thermomechanical, or electromagnetic energy. This document does not cover portable or hand-held breakers either.

ISO 8812:2016 establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for self-propelled crawler or wheeled backhoe loaders, as defined in ISO 6165, and their equipment. ISO 8812:2016 is not applicable to loaders equipped with a backhoe attachment in accordance with ISO 7131:2009, 3.3.1.1.

ISO 7133:2013 establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for scrapers (including towed scrapers) and their equipment.

ISO 7135:2009 establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for self-propelled crawler and wheeled hydraulic excavators and their equipment and attachments.

ISO 7131:2009 establishes the terminology and content of commercial literature specifications for self‑propelled crawler and wheeled loaders as defined in ISO 6165, with their equipment and attachments, used in earth-moving operations.

ISO 7136:2006 establishes a terminology for, and the content of, commercial literature specifications for self-propelled pipelayers and their equipment.

ISO 15219:2004 establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for self-propelled, crawler and wheeled cable excavators and their equipment.

ISO 7132:2003 establishes a terminology for, and the content of, commercial literature specifications for self-propelled dumpers (including compact dumpers), as defined in ISO 6165, used in earth moving.

ISO 6746-2:2002 specifies a reference system for defining, and a coding system for identifying, equipment and attachment dimensions for earth-moving machinery in terminology standards and commercial specifications. It is applicable to the equipment and attachments of the basic types of earth-moving machinery defined in ISO 6165.

ISO 6746-1:2002 defines certain dimensions of earth-moving base-machines as well as the codes identifying those dimensions. At the same time it specifies a reference system for defining, and a coding system for identifying, additional, similar dimensions in terminology standards and commercial specifications. It is applicable to the basic types of earth-moving machinery as defined in ISO 6165.
