IEC 61587-1:2016: specifies environmental requirements, test set-up, as well as safety aspects for empty enclosures, i.e., cabinets, racks, subracks, chassis with an integrated subrack, and associated plug-in units under indoor condition use and transportation. The purpose of this standard is to establish defined levels of physical performance in order to meet certain requirements of storage, transport and final location conditions. It applies in whole or part only to the mechanical structures of cabinets, racks, subracks, chassis with an integrated subrack, and associated plug-in units, but it does not apply to electronic equipment. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2011. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: total overhaul of Clause 7 "Mechanical tests" and compatibility with IEC 61587-5.

IEC 61587-5:2013 specifies seismic test requirements for chassis, subracks, and plug-in units as defined in the IEC 60297 and IEC 60917 series. It applies in whole or in part, only to the mechanical structures of chassis, subracks, and plug-in units for electronic equipment, according to the IEC 60297 and IEC 60917 series, and does not apply to electronic components, equipment or systems within the mechanical structures. The object of this standard is to establish a level of physical integrity of chassis, subracks, and plug-in units according to IEC 60297 and IEC 60917 series that may provide a level of survivability that will preserve functionality during and after a seismic occurrence. It is intended to provide the user with a high level of confidence in the selection of an equipment practice to meet such needs. Since IEC 60297 and IEC 60917 series chassis, subracks, and plug-in units come in many sizes, weights and mechanical complexities, it is not possible to define a single minimum seismic test requirement for all weight categories. Therefore, overall mass categories are defined in this standard. However, the mass distribution inside a chassis and subrack is considered "application-specific" and herein defined as "intended use". IEC 61587-3:2013 specifies the tests for empty cabinets and subracks concerning electromagnetic shielding performance, in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 3 000 MHz. Stipulated attenuation values are chosen for the definition of the shielding performance level of cabinets and subracks for the IEC 60297 and IEC 60917 series. The shielding performance levels are chosen with respect to the requirements of the typical fields of industrial application. They will support the measures to achieve electromagnetic compatibility but cannot replace the final testing of compliance of the equipped enclosure. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition issued in 2006. It constitutes a technical revision. The main technical changes with regard to the previous edition are as follows. This edition corrects the errors of EM code descriptions and the frequency range for the shielding performance is extended up to 3 000 MHz. Keywords: Electromagnetic, Shielding, Cabinets, Subracks

IEC 60917-2-5:2012 applies to a frame-based cabinet structure with the specification of interface dimensions for the installation of miscellaneous equipment. The frame structure provides the mounting planes with mounting points for the assembly of internal and external accessories. Unlike the existing standards IEC 60917-2-1 and IEC 60297-3-100, this standard allows cover parts like top covers and front/rear doors to exceed the cabinet's external coordination dimensions. IEC 61587-1:2011 specifies environmental requirements, test set-up, as well as safety aspects for empty enclosures, i.e. cabinets, racks, subracks and chassis under indoor conditions. The purpose of this standard is to establish defined levels of physical performance in order to meet certain requirements of storage, transport and final location conditions. It applies in whole or part only to the mechanical structures of cabinets, racks, subracks and chassis, but it does not apply to electronic equipment. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2007. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- Rephrasing "performance level" by "classification";
- Reference to fire hazard testing according to IEC 60695-11-10 in 8.2.1;
- Intended applications replaced by application examples;
- Static load test, distributed dummy load locations for ETSI and 19" removed;
- Table "Static load distribution within the cabinet" IEC 60297-2 changed to IEC 60297-3-100;
- IEC 60917 subrack 625 mm wide has been removed, as it is not a common width;
- Parts of the document relevant to outdoors have been removed (reference to 61969 series).

IEC 61587-2:2011 specifies seismic tests for cabinets and racks accommodated with IEC 60917 and 60297 series. It applies, in whole or in part, only to the mechanical structures of cabinets and racks for electronic equipment according to the above cited series of standards, while it does not apply to the electronic equipment or systems deemed to be installed within these mechanical structures. This standard does not apply either to a cabinet or a rack having an anti-seismic isolation structure, either external or internal. This standard aims to provide test conditions and criteria that constitute a reference to evaluate the ability of the mechanical structure of the cabinets or racks to acceptably withstand specified seismic intensities. For this purpose, this standard specifies test specimen conditions, such as dimensions (i.e. height, width and depth) of the cabinet and the rack, load distribution, structural test condition and the RRS (required response spectra) of single-axis or tri-axis acceleration as the seismic test wave condition. The single-axis or tri-axis acceleration is selectable. The second edition of this standard replaces the first edition published in 2000 and constitutes a technical revision. The main technical changes with regard to the previous edition are as follows:
Edition 1.0 specified the test condition with one size of the cabinet, and one load distribution. The specified acceleration condition for the test specimen was single-axis and one of the RRS (required response spectra) specified in the standard was selected. The test was aimed to obtain the reference for the structural strength of the enclosure against the specified seismic intensity. Earthquakes are actually random phenomena that are much more carefully simulated by tri-axial simultaneous operation. The demand of tri-axial excitation has emerged as a more accurate representation of an earthquake.

IEC 60917-2-4:2010 specifies dimensions for mounting flanges of metric subracks or chassis that are to be mounted into 19 in cabinets or racks. Additional dimensions for subracks or chassis are according to the IEC 60917 series, and for 19 in cabinets or racks to the IEC 60297 series. EMC, seismic climatic and environmental requirements and tests, are defined in the IEC 61587 series.

IEC 60917-2-3:2006 Provides additional dimensions for a modular range of subracks and associated plug-in units based on IEC 60917-2-2. A typical subrack consists of a frame design with mounting dimensions for installation into racks or cabinets in accordance with IEC 60917-2-1. The aperture dimensions of a subrack are specified in order to meet the mounting dimensions of front plug-in units. This part of IEC 60917 comprises additional dimensions for subracks and subrack associated plug-in units with injector/extractor handle, dimensions for basic electromagnetic shielding provisions, dimensions of the key/coding system for subrack and plug-in units, dimensions of the alignment pin for front panel and plug-in unit, dimensions of electrostatic discharge provisions and dimensions of rear-mounted plug-in units. This bilingual version (2013-06) corresponds to the monolingual English version, published in 2006-05. Key words: subrack, plug in units, chassis
