TC 97 - Electrical installations for lighting and beaconing of aerodromes
To prepare international standards for design, installation, verification and maintenance of aeronautical ground lighting of aerodromes. The activity covers requirements which apply to the whole system from the incoming power to the aerodrome up to and including the luminaires used in aeronautical ground lighting. The activity will not cover: - electrical installations already standardized by TC 64; - luminaires not used as aeronautical ground lights standardized by TC 34; - special cables for the constant current series circuit standardized by TC 20. Note. - Operational requirements for aeronautical ground lights are specified in Annex 14 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

IEC 61820-3-2:2023 specifies the requirements for power electronic converter systems (PECS) dedicated to powering aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) circuits with series circuit topology. An example of a traditional implementation is an AGL circuit with 6,6 A RMS nominal current, powered by a constant current regulator (CCR). In addition to revising the requirements for 6,6 A CCR setups, this document introduces requirements for general PECS for new AGL systems including systems specifically designed for LED based luminaires.
This first edition cancels and replaces IEC 61822 published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 61822:2009:
a) introduction of power electronic converter systems (PECS) to be used in the aeronautical ground lighting systems other than the 6,6 A aeronautical ground lighting systems;
b) introduction of classification for different device types;
c) introduction of IEC 62477-1:2022 and IEC 62477-2:2018 as the basis for safety related requirements.

IEC 61820-3-4:2023 specifies protective provisions for the operation of lamp systems powered by series circuits in aeronautical ground lighting.
The protective provisions described here refer only to secondary supply systems for loads that are electrically separated from the series circuit.
This document specifies the level of SELV, and alternatively PELV, under consideration of additional personnel protection during work on live secondary circuits by electrically skilled persons. This document also covers the special operational features of aeronautical ground lighting and addresses the level of training and the requirements for maintenance procedures detailed in IEC 61821 and other national or regional regulation.
The requirements and tests are intended to set a specification framework for system designers, system installers, users, and maintenance personnel to ensure a safe and economic use of electrical systems in installations for the beaconing of aerodromes.
This document complements existing IEC aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) standards and can be used as a design specification.

IEC 61823:2002 specifies the characteristics of aeronautical ground lighting series trans-formers (AGLST) used in aeronautical ground lighting for 6,6 A series circuits, at a service voltage of up to 5 kV, supplied by constant current regulators up to 30 kVA in rating. AGL series transformers provide power to airport lighting luminaires or other loads (resistive) from their secondary circuits. The AGL series transformers provide continuity of the series circuit in the event of a loss of the load on the transformer, and electrical isolation between the primary circuit supplied by a constant current regulator, and the secondary circuit connected to the load under conditions defined in this standard. This bilingual version (2016-11) corresponds to the English version, published in 2002-12.

IEC 62143:2002(E) This technical specification:

This International Standard specifies the requirements for a Constant Current Regulator (CCR) having a nominal output of 6,6 A for use in an aeronautical ground lighting constant current series circuit. However CCRs may be manufactured which have a different power rating (kVA) and current steps than those specified in this standard in order to be used on existing circuits.
