This European Standard is a complementary document for the installation of ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints, covered by EN 598:2009 harmonized standard. It is intended to describe, in a wider perspective, installation technologies, tools and pipelines particular examples, applicable for the construction, outside buildings, of:
- Drainage pipeline systems;
- Raw water pipeline systems;
- Sewage pipeline systems;
- Pipeline systems conveying surface water (e.g. rainwater), domestic waste water and/or certain types of industrial effluents, either in separate systems or in combined systems;
- Operating without pressure (gravity sewers) or with positive or negative pressure;
- Below or above ground installation types.
It also gives some site operation/site instructions for the application of fittings, intended to be used for the connection of ductile iron drains and sewers to other materials as plastic, concrete, vitrified clay, etc.
This European Standard is not intended to cover:
- Hydraulic design of drains and sewers systems outside buildings. For this purpose, EN 16933-2 applies.
- Construction and site testing of drains and sewers. For this purpose, EN 1610 applies.
- Trenchless construction and testing of drains and sewers. For this purpose, EN 12889:2000 applies

This European Standard specifies the requirements and associated test methods applicable to ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for the construction of pipelines outside buildings:
- to convey different types of water (e.g. raw water, treated water, re-used water) for all types of applications (e.g. water intended for human consumption, for fire protection, for snow making, for irrigation, for hydro-electricity etc.);
- with or without pressure;
- to be installed below or above ground.
This European Standard is applicable to pipes, fittings and accessories which are:
- manufactured with socketed, flanged or spigot ends;
- supplied externally and internally coated;
- suitable for fluid temperatures between 0 °C and 50 °C, excluding frost;
- not intended for use in areas subject to fire regulations.
NOTE 1 This does not preclude special arrangements for the products to be used at higher temperatures.
This European Standard covers pipes and fittings cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints and accessories, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 2 000, inclusive.
This European Standard specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings of ductile iron pipes and fittings. It also gives performance requirements for all components including joints. Joint design and gasket shapes are outside the scope of this standard.
In addition, reference is made to the performance requirements of couplings, flange adaptors and saddles manufactured for use with ductile iron pipes and fittings.
NOTE 2 In this European Standard, all pressures are relative pressures, expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

This European Standard specifies the requirements and associated test methods applicable to ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints used for the construction of external pipelines:
- to convey air or combustible gases (e.g. natural gas or town gas) at pressures up to 16 bar;
- to be installed below or above ground.
NOTE 1 A combustible gas is a gas or any fuel that is in gaseous state at a temperature of 15 °C at a pressure of 1 bar.
This European Standard applies to pipes, fittings and accessories which are:
- manufactured with socketed, flanged or spigot ends;
- normally delivered externally and internally coated;
- suitable for gas temperatures between - 15 °C and 50 °C.
This European Standard covers pipes, fittings and accessories cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 600 inclusive.
This European Standard specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings of ductile iron pipes and fittings. It also gives performance requirements for all components including joints. Joint design and gasket shape are outside the scope of this European Standard.
NOTE 2 In this European Standard, all pressures are relative pressures expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

EN 598 specifies the requirements and associated test methods applicable to ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for the construction of drains and sewers outside buildings:
- operating without pressure (gravity sewerage), or with positive or negative pressure;
- to be installed below or above ground;
- to convey surface water, domestic waste water and certain types of industrial effluents, either in separate systems or in combined systems.
This technical report:
- explains in more detail the process of testing for the performance tests;
- explains in more detail the benefits of high alumina cement lining;
- explains in more detail the definitions of the different types/levels of attestation to enable customers to ensure their requirements are fulfilled;
- explains in more detail the ways of certification of conformity with EN 598 for a reliable evaluation of the performance of products;
- explains in more detail CE marking and its relevance i.e. the CE mark is not a mark of conformity with a standard but only a self-declaration concerning the CPD essential requirements.
In order to make the use of this Technical Report easier, the clauses of this document refer to the corresponding clause numbers in EN 598.
