Overview
SIST EN 2714-010:2009 is a European standard established by CEN that specifies the product requirements for aerospace electrical cables, focusing on screened (braided) and jacketed single and multicore cables designed for general purpose use in aircraft. These cables are engineered to operate reliably under extreme temperature conditions ranging from -55 °C to 260 °C.
The standard addresses cables that are YAG X3 laser printable, enabling precise and durable marking crucial for aerospace applications. Furthermore, the cables can also be marked using hot stamp or inkjet printing methods in compliance with EN 3838, offering versatile identification options.
This standard is essential for manufacturers and aerospace engineers concerned with ensuring cables meet stringent performance, safety, and traceability requirements in harsh environmental conditions typical of aviation electrical systems.
Key Topics
Cable Types and Construction
Covers single and multicore cables with 1 to 4 cores, twisted according to EN 2235. The cables include a nickel-plated copper stranded braid as a screen and a multi-layer jacket consisting of polyimide and fluorocarbon coatings to provide excellent thermal resistance and durability.Operating Temperature Range
Certified for use in extreme onboard conditions from -55 °C to 260 °C, suitable for demanding aerospace environments.Marking and Identification
Supports YAG X3 laser printing for highly legible, permanent markings on cable surfaces. Additional marking methods such as hot stamp and inkjet printing ensure compliance with aerospace traceability standards (EN 3838).Materials Standards
Complies with related aerospace standards for conductors (EN 2083), cable construction (EN 2235), and test methods (EN 3475-100), ensuring material quality and functional performance.Performance and Testing Requirements
Specifies extensive testing including ohmic resistance, insulation resistance, thermal ageing, flammability, abrasion resistance, and adherence of plating. These tests guarantee reliability, safety, and durability suitable for aviation electrical systems.Quality Assurance
References EN 9133 for aerospace quality management systems, ensuring that cable production adheres to internationally recognized quality protocols.
Applications
SIST EN 2714-010:2009 cables are designed specifically for use in:
On-board Electrical Systems of Aircraft
Ensuring power distribution and signal integrity in environments exposed to wide temperature fluctuations and harsh conditions.Aerospace and Defence Industries
Providing standards compliance for electrical wiring harnesses in commercial, military, and space vehicles.High-Temperature Electrical Installations
Suitable for aerospace applications requiring screened cables with enhanced protection against electromagnetic interference, mechanical stress, and chemical exposure.Traceability-Driven Environments
Laser and inkjet printable markings enable maintenance, inspection, and retrofit activities where precise cable identification and documentation are vital to safety and compliance.
Related Standards
SIST EN 2714-010:2009 works in conjunction with a suite of aerospace standards including:
- EN 2083 – Copper or copper alloy conductors for aerospace cables.
- EN 2235 – Technical specifications for screened and jacketed cables.
- EN 2267-003 – Inkjet printable aerospace cables for general purpose.
- EN 2714-002 – General requirements for screened and jacketed aerospace cables.
