598-2-9 © I EC 1987-7-LUMINAIRESPart 2: Particular requirementsSection Nine - Photo and film luminaires(non-professional)9.1 ScopeThis section of Part 2 of IEC Publication 598 specifies requirementsfor photo and film luminaires (non-professional) for use with tungstenfilament lamps on supply voltages not exceeding 250 V, includinglow-pressure tungsten halogen lamps specified in IEC Publication 357with the reference 357-IEC-3155.It is to be read in conjunction with those sections of Part 1 to whichreference is made.9.2 General test requirementsThe provisions of Section Zero of Publication 598-1 apply. The testsdescribed in each appropriate section of Part 1 shall be carried out inthe order listed in this section of Part 2.9.3 DefinitionsFor the purposes of this section, the definitions of Section One ofPublication 598-1 apply together with the following definitions:1)Rated maximum operating time and rated minimum resting time:The maximum operating time and minimum resting time betweenoperating periods at rated voltage assigned to the luminaire by themanufacturer.2)Low-pressure tungsten halogen lamp:Tungsten halogen lamp having a working gas pressure below 105 Pa(1 bar).Notes 1.- In order to ensure non-interchangeability, the low-pressure lamps are longer than tungsten halogen photo-graphic lamps having a working gas pressure above 105 Pa(1 bar).2.- The packaging of low-pressure lamps is provided with amarking indicating clearly that it contains one or morelow-pressure tungsten halogen lamps.SIST EN 60598-2-9:1995
598-2-9 © I EC 198799.4 Classification of luminairesLuminaires shall be classified in accordance with the provisions ofSection Two of Publication 598-1, except that Class 0 is excluded.9.5 MarkingThe provisions of Section Three of Publication 598-1 apply togetherwith the requirements of Sub-clauses 9.5.1 to 9.5.4.9.5.1 Luminaires not designed for continuous operation shall be markedeither on the luminaire or on a label attached to the supply cordsupplied with the luminaire, with the rated maximum operating time or,if applicable, with the rated maximum operating time and rated minimumresting time.Example: "Maximum operating time 15 min - Minimum resting time15 min."9.5.2 Luminaires shall be marked with the type and the rated current ofeach fuse used in the ,luminaire, in accordance with IEC Publica-tion 357. The manufacturer shall include in the instruction leafletsupplied with the luminaire a full description of the fuses and lampsused in the luminaire and a cautionary notice in accordance with IECPublication 357, if halogen lamps are to be used.9.5.3 Luminaires shall be clearly marked, either on the luminaire or on alabel attached to the supply cord supplied with the luminaire, with thefollowing warning:"Disconnect from the 'supply before lamp changing or servicing."9.5.4 The marking specified in Sub-clauses 9.5.1 to 9.5.3 is not requiredin more than one language on the luminaire; translations may be givenin the instruction leaflet supplied with the luminaire.The marking specified in Sub-clause 9.5.3 is not required if thelamp or fuse replacement can be effected only after the luminaire hasbeen disconnected from the supply.9.5.5 Luminaires for use with low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps shallbe marked with the following warnings:1)"Only use lamps which comply with Sheet 357-IEC-3155."2)"The luminaire may only be used complete with lamp cover."Note. - This marking may be omitted if the luminaire does not operatewithout the lamp cover.SIST EN 60598-2-9:1995
598-2-9 © I EC 1987- 11 -9.6 ConstructionThe provisions of Section Four of Publication 598-1 apply togetherwith the requirements of Sub-clauses 9.6.1 to 9.6.3.9.6.1Each lamp circuit in the luminaire shall be individually fused.9.6.2 Safety screens9.6.2.1 Luminaires incorporating other thanlow-pressure tungstenhalogen lamps:A safety screen shall be fitted to a luminaire incorporating halogenlamps other than low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps to provideprotection against the effects of a shattering lamp.Note.- Requirements relating to the construction of the screen aregiven in Appendix A.9.6.2.2 Luminaires incorporating low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps:Low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps do not require a safety screencomplying with Appendix A but only a simple lamp cover for example,a cylindrical tube for protection against falling parts in the event oflamp breakage.Openings in a luminaire for use with low-pressure tungsten halogenlamps shall be such that parts of a broken lamp cannot leave theluminaire by a direct path when the luminaire is in any recommendedposition of use.Compliance is checked by operating the luminaire, at rated voltage ofthe lamp, in a position of normal use for 5 min and causing successive.breakage of two lamps as follows:Each of the two lamps is prepared for the test by making an incisionin the bulb wall. After 5 min operation, each of the lamps is destroyedby hitting at the location of the incision, through a hole provided forthis purpose in the luminaire.Hot parts of broken lamps shall not ignite a piece of cotton gauze,consisting of five layers, spread out horizontally 500 mm below the testsampleCare should be taken that an undamaged lamp cover is used in alltests.Note.- For the purpose of this test the luminaire beam is directeddownwards at such an angle that the minimum distance fromlighted objects, as marked on the luminaire, is complied with.SIST EN 60598-2-9:1995
598-2-9 © I EC 1987- 13 -9.6.3For luminaires fitted with handles or grips -the following require-ments apply:a)It shall not be possible to remove by hand shrouds which-, preventcontact with E14 and E27 lamp caps without rendering the luminaireobviously useless.b)Where the handle of a luminaire encases electrical circuitry it shallbe of insulating material, but other material is permitted where thehandle is double insulated from current-carrying parts.Note.- Wood is not considered to be an insulating material.c)Lampholders shall be locked against rotation so that they can beloosened only with the aid of a tool. The means of fixing shall notserve to fix any other part.Compliance shall be checked by inspection.9.6.4 The distance between a pair of R7s holders in a luminaire shallcomply with the requirements of the appropriate Standard Sheet of IECPublication 61-2.9.7 Creepage distances and clearancesThe provisions of Section Eleven of Publication 598-1 apply.9.8 Provision for earthingThe provisions of Section Seven of Publication 598-1 apply.9.9 TerminalsThe provisions of Sections Fourteen and Fifteen of Publication 598-1apply.9.10 External and internal wiringThe provisions of Section Five of Publication 598-1 apply togetherwith the requirements of Sub-clauses 9.10.1 and 9.10.2.9.10.1 For luminaires fitted with handles or grips, external flexible cablesor cords shall be protected against excessive bending at the inletopening of the luminaire by means such as a cord guard of insulatingmaterial or a suitably shaped inlet opening.
