Abstract

UThe present document applies to Road Transport Traffic and Telematics (RTTT) systems:
with an integral antenna;
for mobile applications only;
operating in the frequency range from 76 GHz to 77 GHz.
The applicability of the present document covers only the 76 GHz to 77 GHz automotive Radar equipment for road vehicles. The present document does not necessarily include all the characteristics which may be required by a user, nor does it necessarily represent the optimum performance achievable. The present document applies to radio equipment intended to operate in a frequency designation as defined in CEPT/ECC/DEC (02)01 [7] and in CEPT/ERC/REC 70-03 [5] in all or in part of the service frequency band from 76 GHz to 77 GHz. The present document is intended to cover the provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC [1] (R&TTE Directive) article 3.2, which states that "… radio equipment shall be so constructed that it effectively uses the spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communications and orbital resources so as to avoid harmful interference". In addition to the present document, other ENs that specify technical requirements in respect of essential requirements under other parts of article 3 of the R&TTE Directive [1] will apply to equipment within the scope of the present document.

SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2, a harmonized European standard for automotive radar equipment used in Road Transport and Traffic Telematics (RTTT). It covers integral-antenna, mobile devices operating in the 76 GHz to 77 GHz band and sets the radio-spectrum and electromagnetic compatibility requirements used to address article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive. Manufacturers, test laboratories, and conformity assessors use it to check frequency use, radiated power, and unwanted emissions.

What does SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 specify?

SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 specifies the essential radio requirements and test approach for 76 GHz to 77 GHz RTTT radar equipment for road vehicles. It applies to systems with an integral antenna, for mobile applications only, and it is focused on the provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC article 3.2.

The document is organized into:

  • Clause 1: Scope
  • Clause 2: References
  • Clause 3: Definitions, symbols and abbreviations
  • Clause 4: Technical requirements specifications
  • Clause 5: Testing for compliance with technical requirements
  • Annex A: HS Requirements and conformance Test specifications Table
  • Annex B: The EN title in the official languages
AnnexWhat it covers
Annex A (normative)The HS-RTT table linking each essential requirement to its test specification and conformity status
Annex B (informative)The EN title in the official languages

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007?

Environmental conditions

Clause 4.1 says the requirements apply within the declared operational environmental profile. In practice, the provider has to state the operating conditions, and the equipment must meet the standard across the boundaries of that declared profile.

Clause 5.1 then requires testing at representative points within that profile, and under enough different conditions when performance changes with the environment. This matters for radar because temperature or other operating conditions can change radio behavior.

Transmitter and receiver limits

Clause 4.2.1.1 limits the permitted operating frequency range by reference to EN 301 091-1. In practice, the radar must stay inside the authorized 76 GHz to 77 GHz allocation.

Clauses 4.2.1.2 and 4.2.1.3 control radiated spatial mean power density and radiated spatial peak power density, both by reference to EN 301 091-1. These limits keep the transmitter from radiating more power than allowed.

Clauses 4.2.1.4 and 4.2.1.5 cover out-of-band emissions and spurious emissions, and clause 4.2.2 covers receiver spurious emissions. In practice, this is the part that limits unwanted radiation that could disturb other radio users.

Testing and evidence

Clause 5.2 assigns the essential radio test suites by pointing back to the matching test clauses in EN 301 091-1. That means part 2 does not duplicate the procedures; it tells the user which tests to run for frequency, power, out-of-band emissions, spurious emissions, and receiver spurious emissions.

Clause 5.3 says interpretation of results and measurement uncertainty follow EN 301 091-1. This is important when deciding pass or fail, because the result is not just the measured value but also how uncertainty is handled.

Annex A turns the requirements into the HS-RTT table. In practice, that table is the compliance record used to map each essential requirement to its test and to support a presumption of conformity.

What terms does SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 define?

  • environmental profile - The range of environmental conditions in which the equipment is expected to comply with the standard.
  • RTTT - Road Transport and Traffic Telematics, the application area for the radar equipment covered here.
  • SRD - Short Range Devices, the broader family of radio devices named in the series title.
  • e.i.r.p. - The radiated power measure used in the transmitter limits for mean and peak output.
  • out-of-band emissions - Emissions outside the intended operating band that can affect adjacent spectrum use.
  • spurious emissions - Unwanted emissions at frequencies other than the intended transmission.
  • HS-RTT - The harmonized requirements and conformance test table in Annex A that links requirements to tests.

Who uses SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007?

SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 is used by radar manufacturers, especially for road vehicles, when they design and declare equipment for the 76 GHz to 77 GHz band. It is also used by EMC and radio test laboratories, certification teams, and technical file authors who need to show compliance with the article 3.2 spectrum-use requirement.

Procurement and quality teams can use it to check that a supplier is offering the right class of automotive radar and the right evidence package. Regulators and conformity assessors can use the HS-RTT table in Annex A to trace each requirement to its test basis.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007?

What does the SIST EN 301 091-2 V1.3.2:2007 document contain?

The document contains the scope, the reference list, the definitions section, the technical requirements, and the compliance test section. It also contains Annex A, which is the normative HS-RTT table used to link each requirement to its test, and Annex B, which gives the title in official languages.

Clause 4 focuses on the required radio behavior, while clause 5 sets out how to verify it. The document is built to support conformity assessment for 76 GHz to 77 GHz automotive radar equipment, not to describe product features or optimized performance.
