This draft amendment prAA, if approved, will modify the European Standard prEN IEC 60335-2-99:2026; it is submitted to CENELEC
members for enquiry.
Deadline for CENELEC: 2026-09-25.

It has been drawn up by CLC/TC 61.

If this draft becomes an amendment, CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.

This draft amendment was established by CENELEC in three official versions (English, French, German).
A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to
the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

61 Replace the whole content of the Scope with the following:
62 “This clause of Part 1 is replaced with the following.
63 This document deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial hoods intended to collect and conduct
64 contaminated air, and not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single
65 phase, and 480 V for others hoods. Only single complete units and hoods supplied as separate parts which
66 when assembled form a complete extraction system, incorporating a fan, are within the scope of this document.
67 The hood can be used above one or more appliance or types of appliances.
68 The following extraction systems are covered as well:
69 — back-draft ventilation systems;
70 — down-draft ventilation systems;
71 — fume extraction modules.
72 These appliances are not intended for household and similar purposes. They are used in areas not open to the
73 public, for example in kitchens of restaurants, canteens, hospitals and in commercial enterprises such as
74 bakeries and butcheries.
75 This document deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards of intended use presented by appliances and
76 machines, which are encountered by all persons and domestic animals in and around the installation place or
77 workplace.
78 NOTE Z101 Attention is drawn to the fact that:
79 —  for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;
80 —  in many countries additional requirements including ventilation requirements are specified by the national health
81 authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.
82 This document does not apply to:
83 — domestic range hoods (IEC 60335-2-31);
84 — purpose-built hoods, although this document can be used as a guide (a purpose-built hood is either
85 constructed on-site or specially constructed in the factory and is not mass produced);
86 — appliances not incorporating a fan;
87 — appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
88 — appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a
89 corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
90 — hoods designed for use in vehicles or on board of ships or aircraft;
91 — hoods with special treatment of cooking fumes, e.g. UV-C treatment, plasma-treatment, catalyser, etc.;
92 — ventilation and air conditioning systems;
93 — exhaust air systems;
94 — battery-operated appliances.
95 With European Amendment A11, EN IEC 60335-2-99:2024+A11:2024 is superseded.
96 This European Amendment A11 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of the standards below:

129 6 Modification to the Clause 7, “Marking and instructions”
130 7.1 Modification:
131 In the first paragraph starting with “Appliances shall be marked with…”, replace the fourth and fifth list items with
132 the following:
133 “—  business name and full address of the manufacturer and, where applicable, his authorized representative;
134 —  model or type reference, serial number if any and production year;
135 NOTE Z101 Production year is the year when the production process is completed. The production year can be a part
136 of the serial number.”
137 In the first paragraph starting with “Appliances shall be marked with…”, add the following new list item and
138 paragraph:
139 “—  designation of the appliance.
140 The designation may be a combination of letters and/or numbers and shall enable to identify the machine as
141 specified in the instructions.”
142 7.12 Modification:
143 Replace the fourth paragraph starting with “This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including
144 children)…” with the following:
145 “The instructions shall state the substance of the following:
146 — This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or
147 lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use
148 of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.”
149 In the addition, replace the sentence starting with “If the manufacturer.” with the following:
150 “If the intended use of the appliance shall be limited to less than the above, this shall be clearly stated in the
151 instructions.”
152 Delete the modification starting with “The instruction concerning persons (including children)…”.
153 Add the following:
154 “The front cover of the instructions shall include the substance of the following:
155 “CAUTION: Read the instructions before using the appliance
156 This wording may be replaced by symbols ISO 7000-0434A (2004-01) and ISO 7000-0790 (2016-08).
157 The instructions shall also state the maximum weight of the empty appliance when ready for installation.
158 If any of symbols IEC 60417-5021 (2002-10), ISO 7000-0434A (2004-01) or ISO 7000-0790 (2016-08) are used
159 on the product or in the instructions, their meaning shall be explained.
160 The instructions shall contain the following:
161 — business name and full address of the manufacturer and, where applicable, his authorized representative;
162 — model or type reference of the appliance as marked on the appliance itself, except for the serial number;
163 — a designation of the appliance together with its explanation in case it is given by a combination of letters
164 and/or numbers;
165 — a general description of the appliance, when needed due to the complexity of the appliance;
166 — intended use of the appliance as covered by the scope of this document;
167 — meaning of the symbols used on the appliance and in the instructions;
168 — information regarding putting into service and use of the appliance;
169 — specific precautions if required during installation, operation, adjusting, user maintenance, cleaning,
170 repairing or moving;
171 — when needed drawings, diagrams, descriptions and explanations necessary for the safe use and user
172 maintenance of the appliance;
173 — possible reasonably foreseeable misuse and, whenever relevant, a warning against the effects it may have
174 on the safe use of the appliance.
175 The words ‘Original instructions’ shall appear on the language version(s) verified.
176 When a translation of the original instructions has been provided by a person introducing the appliance on the
177 market, the meaning of the sentence ‘Translation of the original instructions’ shall appear in the relevant
178 instructions delivered with the appliance.
179 The instructions needed for maintenance/service to be done by specialized personnel may be supplied in only
180 one Community language which the specialized personnel understand.”
181 Add the following subclauses:
182 “7.12.Z101 Information shall be given on airborne noise emissions, stating that the A-weighted emission sound
183 pressure level is below 70 dB(A).
184 Compliance is checked by inspection.
