Safety rules for the construction and installation of escalators and passenger conveyors
1.1 This standard is applicable for all new escalators and passenger conveyors (pallet or belt type). 1.2 Existing escalators and passenger conveyors are not subject to this standard. It is, however, recommended that they be adapted to this standard. 1.3 If some dimensions of this standard cannot be kept due to structural conditions in existing buildings, it has to be defined in the individual case which alternative measures are necessary. Note: In addition see 0.5 and 0.6
Sicherheitsregeln für die Konstruktion und den Einbau von Fahrtreppen und Fahrsteigen
Diese Norm gilt für alle neu zu errichtenden Fahrtreppen und Fahrsteige (Paletten- oder Gurtkonstruktion). Bestehende Fahrtreppen und Fahrsteige unterliegen nicht dieser Norm. Es wird jedoch empfohlen, sie dieser Norm anzupassen. Können durch bauliche Gegebenheiten bei bestehenden Gebäuden einige Maße dieser Norm nicht eingehalten werden, so ist im Einzelfall festzulegen, welche Ersatzmaßnahmen erforderlich sind.

La présente norme s'applique à toute nouvelle installation d'escaliers mécaniques et de trottoirs roulants (à plateaux ou à bande). Les escaliers mécaniques et les trottoirs roulants existants ne sont pas soumis à la présente norme. Il est toutefois recommandé qu'ils soient adaptés à celle-ci. Si certaines dimensions indiquées dans cette norme ne peuvent être respectées en raison des conditions de structure des bâtiments existants, il doit être défini, cas par cas, les mesures de remplacement nécessaires.
