The EN 13796-3:2017 standard is a critical document in the realm of cableway installations designed to carry persons, specifically focusing on the safety requirements for carriers. The scope of this standard effectively covers various types of installations intended for passenger transportation, ensuring comprehensive applicability across different environments and conditions. One of the primary strengths of this standard lies in its detailed specification of fatigue testing for carriers serving unidirectional monocable aerial ropeways with a maximum capacity of 16 persons. This clearly defined limit aids manufacturers and operators in adhering to recognized safety benchmarks that are crucial for the reliable operation of cableway systems. By focusing on fatigue testing, the standard addresses essential safety concerns that arise from the repetitive stress that carriers endure during operational use, thus promoting enhanced safety for passengers. Additionally, the standard's exclusion of cableway installations for the transportation of goods or inclined lifts is a clear strength, as it delineates its applicability, allowing for specialized focus on passenger carriers. This targeted approach ensures that the requirements set forth are relevant and practical for the specific types of systems in question. Overall, the EN 13796-3:2017 standard is highly relevant to stakeholders within the cableway installation industry. It provides a robust framework that emphasizes safety through its rigorous testing protocols, ultimately contributing to the advancement of safety standards in passenger transportation via aerial ropeways.
