Safety of thermal cutting machines (ISO 17916:2016)

ISO 17916:2016 specifies the safety requirements and measures for machinery covering design, construction, production, transport, installation, operation, maintenance, and putting out of service.
ISO 17916:2016 applies to machinery using thermal cutting and or marking processes such as oxy-fuel, plasma arc. This International Standard applies to machinery the basis of which is either designed as open gantry, cantilever machine, or the track of which is incorporated in the cutting table.
ISO 17916:2016 does not cover design standards for specific tools, e.g. oxy-fuel hose standards, electrical requirements for plasma power supplies. Most tools used on thermal cutting machines have specific design standards.
ISO 17916:2016 does not cover handheld cutting equipment and cutting equipment which is combined with a constrained tracking system mounted on the work piece.
Risks arising from thermal cutting tools may be covered by related standards.
Risks arising from laser radiation, except those caused by position indicating lasers, are not covered by this International Standard. Those risks are covered by ISO 11553.
Machines that combine thermal processes with other processes (e.g. grinding, drilling, milling, etc.) are only partly covered. Risks arising from these other processes may be covered by related standards.

Sicherheit von Maschinen zum thermischen Trennen (ISO 17916:2016)

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Sicherheitsanforderungen an und die sicherheitstechnischen Maßnahmen für Maschinen hinsichtlich Konstruktion, Montage, Fertigung, Transport, Installation, Betrieb, Wartung und Außerbetrieb¬nahme fest.
Diese Internationale Norm gilt für Maschinen, die thermische Trenn- und/oder Markierungsverfahren anwenden, z. B. Autogen- und Plasmaschneiden. Diese Internationale Norm gilt für Maschinen, die hauptsächlich entweder als Portalmaschine mit Ausleger konstruiert sind oder deren Schienen im Schneidtisch integriert sind.
Diese Internationale Norm ist keine Konstruktionsnorm für spezielle Anlagenteile, z. B. Norm für Sauerstoff- und Brenngasschläuche, elektrische Anforderungen an Plasmanetzteile. Für die meisten bei Brennschneidanlagen verwendeten Anlagenteile sind spezielle Konstruktionsnormen vorhanden.
Handschneidgeräte und mit einem am Werkstück befestigten Schienensystem kombinierte Schneidgeräte sind nicht Gegenstand dieser Internationalen Norm.
Durch Brennschneidwerkzeuge entstehende Risiken können in zugehörigen Normen abgedeckt sein.
Risiken durch Laserstrahlung, ausgenommen Strahlung, die durch Positionierlaser verursacht wird, sind nicht Gegenstand dieser Internationalen Norm. Diese Risiken sind in ISO 11553 abgedeckt.
Maschinen, die thermische Verfahren und andere Verfahren (z. B. Schleifen, Drehen, Fräsen usw.) miteinander kombinieren, sind nur teilweise abgedeckt. Risiken, die sich aus diesen anderen Verfahren ergeben, können Gegenstand entsprechender Normen sein.

Sécurité des machines de coupage thermique (ISO 17916:2016)

ISO 17916:2016 spécifie les prescriptions et mesures de sécurité relatives à la conception, à la construction, à la fabrication, au transport, à l'installation, à l'utilisation, à la maintenance et à la mise hors service des machines.
ISO 17916:2016 s'applique aux machines utilisant des procédés de coupage thermique et/ou de marquage, tels que l'oxycoupage, le coupage par arc de plasma. La présente Norme internationale s'applique aux machines dont la base est conçue comme une machine en porte-à-faux à portique ouvert ou dont le transporteur est incorporé à la table de coupage.
ISO 17916:2016 ne traite pas des normes de conception d'outils spécifiques, par exemple les normes relatives aux tuyaux souples d'oxygaz, les exigences électriques relatives aux générateurs de plasma. La plupart des outils utilisés sur les machines de coupage thermique ont des normes de conception spécifiques.
ISO 17916:2016 ne traite pas des équipements de découpe à main ni des équipements de découpe combinés avec un système de suivi contraint monté sur la pièce.
Les risques engendrés par les outils de coupage thermique peuvent être traités dans des normes connexes.
Les risques engendrés par le rayonnement laser, excepté ceux engendrés par les lasers indicateurs de position, ne sont pas traités dans la présente Norme internationale. Ces risques sont traités dans l'ISO 11553.
Les machines qui combinent des procédés thermiques avec d'autres procédés (par exemple meulage, forage, fraisage, etc.) ne sont que partiellement traitées dans la présente norme. Les risques engendrés par ces autres procédés peuvent être traités dans des normes connexes.

Ta standard določa varnostne zahteve in ukrepe za stroje v zvezi z zasnovo, konstrukcijo, proizvodnjo, transportom, namestitvijo, delovanjem, vzdrževanjem in prekinitvijo uporabe. Ta standard se uporablja za stroje, ki izvajajo postopke toplotnega rezanja, kot so plamensko, plazemsko in lasersko rezanje. Ta standard se uporablja za stroje, katerih podnožje je oblikovano kot stroj z odprtim portalom oziroma katerih tirnice so vključene v rezalno mizo ali ohišje. This document (EN ISO 17916:2016) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44 “Welding
and allied processes” in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 “Welding and allied
processes” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2016, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by October 2016.

Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential
Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery
This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European
Commission to provide a means of conforming to Essential Requirements of the New Approach
Directive 2006/42/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 17 May 2006 on
machinery.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive and has
been implemented as a national standard in at least one Member State, compliance with the normative
clauses of this standard confers, within the limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of
conformity with the relevant Essential Requirements of that Directive and associated EFTA regulations.

Introduction
This International Standard has been created in recognition of the particular hazards that are presented
by thermal cutting machines.
This International Standard is a type-C standard as outlined in ISO 12100.
When provisions of a type-C standard are different from those which are stated in type-A or type-B
standards, the provisions of the type-C standard will take precedence over the provisions of the other
standards for machines that have been designed and built in accordance with the provisions of the
type-C standard.
The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations, and events are
covered are indicated in the Scope of this International Standard.
Hazards associated with thermal cutting machines are well recognized, but the sources of the hazards
are frequently unique to a particular thermal cutting system. The number and type(s) of hazard(s) is
(are) directly related to the nature of the thermal cutting process and the complexity of the installation.
The risks associated with these hazards vary with the type of equipment used, its purpose, and the way
in which it is installed, programmed, operated, and maintained.
This International Standard is not applicable to thermal cutting machines that were manufactured
prior to its publication date.
