La présente Norme européenne prescrit les exigences et les méthodes d'essai pour le carburant pour automobiles Ethanol (E85) mis sur le marché et livré. Elle est applicable au carburant pour automobiles Ethanol (E85) destiné aux moteurs à allumage commandé conçus pour utiliser ce carburant.
Le carburant pour automobiles Ethanol (E85) est un mélange de théoriquement 85 % (V/V) d’éthanol et d’essence sans plomb ordinaire, mais il inclut aussi la possibilité de différentes « classes saisonnières » contenant plus que 50 % (V/V) d’éthanol.

E85 is defined as a blend of nominally 85 % (V/V) ethanol and unleaded petrol, with allowance for seasonal grades containing >50 % (V/V) ethanol. The standard covers fuel composition, quality limits, sampling, pump marking and laboratory methods needed to ensure compatibility with spark-ignition vehicles designed for E85.
