This standard applies to safety devices used on power operated doors, as defined and required in EN 12453 "Safety in use of power operated doors - Requirements and classification". This standard contains requirements for design, construction and testing of protective equipment where the equipment is used to detect persons who may be exposed to injury by doors and give an output signal which is used to provide protection for the person who is at risk. It applies to ready to use protective equipment and integrated protective equipment (mounted on or linked to a door as in normal use).

If afault is detected, the OSSD of the safety device shall go to the OFF state;¾ for pressure sensitive bars, they shall meet category 1 of EN 954-1, monitoring the OFF position of the OSSDis not part of the safety device.NOTE 1These requirements, depending on the type of safety device, need to be considered together with the door controlsystem (see Introduction).NOTE 2Monitoring the OFF position of the OSSD is not part of the safety device.4.1.1 Environmental conditionsThe safety device shall maintain its protective function and be suitable for operation in the environmental conditionsexpected from the intended use of the device.SIST EN 12978:2003
