EN 14125:2025/prA1
(Amendment)Thermoplastic and flexible metal pipework for underground installation at petrol filling stations
- Abstract
This document specifies requirements for underground pipework systems used to transfer liquid fuels and their vapours at petrol filling stations. Minimum performance requirements covering fitness for purpose, safety and environmental protection are given.
This document is applicable to pipework made from thermoplastics, which can include some degree of reinforcement, and to flexible metal pipework. It does not apply to fibre reinforced thermosets, commonly referred to as glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP), nor to rigid metals.
This document is applicable to:
- delivery pipes from tanks to dispensers, including positive pressure, vacuum suction and siphon modes;
- fill pipes from road tankers to tanks;
- vapour recovery and vent pipework;
- pipework for secondary containment;
- fittings.
It does not apply to pipework for use with liquefied petroleum gas.

EN 14125:2025/prA1 is a CEN draft amendment to EN 14125:2025 for thermoplastic and flexible metal pipework used underground at petrol filling stations. It updates the test language for the crush test and the high temperature crush tests, so manufacturers, test laboratories, and specifiers can apply the revised wording to pipe and fitting verification.
What does EN 14125:2025/prA1 specify?
EN 14125:2025/prA1 is limited to two changes to EN 14125:2025. It keeps the document focused on underground pipework systems used to transfer liquid fuels and their vapours at petrol filling stations, while revising how two mechanical tests are written.
The underlying standard applies to thermoplastic pipework, including some reinforced constructions, and to flexible metal pipework. It covers delivery pipes from tanks to dispensers, fill pipes from road tankers to tanks, vapour recovery and vent pipework, secondary containment pipework, and fittings. The scope also excludes fibre reinforced thermosets, rigid metals, and pipework for liquefied petroleum gas.
The amendment is organized as a European foreword and two numbered modifications.
| Part of the document | What it covers |
|---|---|
| European foreword | CEN/TC 393 origin and status information |
| Clause 1 | Modification to 5.4.1, “Crush test” |
| Clause 2 | Modification to 7.2.4.2, “High temperature crush tests” |
What are the key requirements of EN 14125:2025/prA1?
EN 14125:2025/prA1 changes the test wording in two places. In practice, the amendment matters because these clauses are used to judge whether pipework and fittings meet the mechanical performance expected for underground fuel installation service.
Clause 5.4.1, “Crush test” adds the note [applicable for pipes only] to the recovery criterion. The clause still requires recovery to not less than 90 % of the original diameter within 5 min of load removal, but the amendment makes clear that this recovery statement is for pipes only. For users, that prevents the pipe acceptance wording from being read as a fitting requirement.
Clause 7.2.4.2, “High temperature crush tests” deletes the words “and each fitting” from the second paragraph. In practice, the high-temperature crush test text is narrowed at that point, so readers applying the clause should use the revised wording exactly as amended.
The amendment is mechanical and editorial in nature. It does not introduce a new test method; it adjusts how existing crush-testing clauses are applied. That matters for conformity assessment, because the exact clause wording is what laboratories and certification bodies work from.
Who uses EN 14125:2025/prA1?
EN 14125:2025/prA1 is used by people who design, make, test, specify, buy, install, or assess underground pipework for petrol filling stations. That includes manufacturers of thermoplastic and flexible metal pipework, fittings suppliers, test laboratories, and certification or quality teams.
It is also relevant to project engineers, buyers, and installers working on fuel-transfer, vapour-recovery, vent, and secondary containment pipework. They use it to align product testing and technical documentation with the amended clause wording.
What changed in EN 14125:2025/prA1 from the previous edition?
EN 14125:2025/prA1 modifies EN 14125:2025 in two places.
- Clause 5.4.1 now states the crush recovery criterion as applicable for pipes only.
- Clause 7.2.4.2 removes the words “and each fitting” from the second paragraph.
These changes refine how the crush-related test clauses are read and applied.
What does the EN 14125:2025/prA1 document contain?
EN 14125:2025/prA1 contains a short European foreword and two amendment clauses. The foreword identifies the document as work prepared by CEN/TC 393 and submitted to CEN Enquiry.
The body of the document is a clause-by-clause set of modifications to EN 14125:2025. It does not reproduce the full underlying standard; instead, it points to the exact sections that change, namely 5.4.1 and 7.2.4.2.
For a reader, that means the document is used together with EN 14125:2025. The amendment text is what you consult when updating test procedures, product files, or conformity checks for crush testing of underground pipework systems.
