1.1 This document specifies the safety requirements for lifting tables with the following characteristics:
- serving no more than 2 fixed landings but able to pass a fixed landing and,
- having a vertical travel speed of no more than 0,15 m/s, unless safe by position and,
- for raising or lowering goods (with or without operator(s) and/or authorized person(s)), or;

This document is applicable to stationary and mobile vehicle lifts, which are not intended to lift persons but which are designed to raise vehicles totally, for the purpose of examining and working on or under the vehicles whilst in a raised position. The vehicle lift may consist of one or more lifting units.
Power supply to the vehicle lift by internal combustion engines is not considered.
The floor or ground supporting the vehicle lift in use is assumed to be horizontal.
This document does not exclude a person from entering a lifted vehicle on wheel supporting lifts, e.g. for special works or for periodical technical inspection, and vehicle lifts for rail-bound vehicles.
This document does not contain requirements for hazards which may arise on vehicle lifts where the carrying device can be tilted.
NOTE Noise does not play a role in vehicle lifts in the majority of cases and is therefore not considered in this document.
This document does not apply to:
- vehicle lifts movable when loaded;

1.1 This document specifies safety requirements and measures for all types and sizes of Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP, see 3.1) intended to move persons to working positions where they are carrying out work from the work platform (WP) with the intention that persons are getting on and off the work platform only at access positions at ground level or on the chassis.
NOTE Machines designed for the handling of goods which are equipped with work platforms as interchangeable equipment are regarded as MEWPs.
1.2 This document is applicable to the structural design calculations and stability criteria, construction, safety examinations and tests before MEWPs are first put into service. It identifies the hazards arising from the use of MEWPs and describes methods for the elimination or reduction of these hazards.
It does not cover the hazards arising from:
a) use in potentially explosive atmospheres;
b) work from the platform on external live electric systems;
c) use of compressed gases for load bearing components;
d) getting on and off the work platform at changing levels;
e) specific applications (e.g. railway, ships) covered by National or local regulations.
1.3 This document does not apply to:
a) machinery serving fixed landings (see e.g. EN 81-20:2020 and EN 81-50:2020, EN 12159:2012);
b) fire-fighting and fire rescue appliances (see e.g. EN 1777:2010);
c) unguided work cages suspended from lifting appliances (see e.g. EN 1808:2015);
d) elevating operator position on rail dependent storage and retrieval equipment (see EN 528:2021);

1.4 Classification:
MEWPs are divided into two main groups:
a) Group A: MEWPs where the vertical projection of the centre of the area of the platform in all platform configurations at the maximum chassis inclination specified by the manufacturer is always inside the tipping lines.
b) Group B: All other MEWPs.
Relating to travelling, MEWPs are divided into three types:
1) Type 1: Travelling is only allowed with the MEWP in its transport position;
2) Type 2: Travelling with lifted work platform is controlled from a point of control at the chassis;
3) Type 3: Travelling with lifted work platform is controlled from a point of control at the work platform.
NOTE Type 2 and type 3 can be combined.

This document, which is to be used in conjunction with EN 280-1:2022, specifies the additional safety requirements for MEWPs of Type 1 Group B equipped with a load lifting appliance. The load-lifting appliance is designed for lifting suspended loads only as part of the task being carried out by personnel from the work platform. This document deals with the additional hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to load lifting appliances either on the extending lifting structure or on the work platform, when the MEWP and load lifting appliance are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer of the MEWP. The significant hazards covered by this document are listed in Annex A.
This document does not cover the following:
a) the use of a MEWP for lifting persons as a suspended load;
b) the use of a MEWP for lifting suspended loads from a control position other than the work platform;
c) requirements for lifting accessories;
d) lifting or lowering of suspended loads for general materials handling as carried out by a crane;
e) MEWPs compliant with EN 280-1:2022, 4.4.1.5 and/or 4.4.1.6 (enhanced stability and overload criteria);
f) MEWPS others than Type1 Group B.
Load lifting appliance can be:
g) fixed load attachment points on the work platform or on the extending lifting structure where the load can be positioned in reach of the personnel on the platform;
h) lifting equipment for lifting or lowering the load with a stationary platform. The equipment is attached to the work platform or extending structure and may have a load lifting jib.
NOTE The lifting equipment can be either permanently attached or removable.

This document specifies safety requirements for design of tail lifts as defined in 3.1 for mounting on wheeled goods vehicles. It also specifies the verification of such tail lifts and the safety information that has to be provided for their use.
This document deals with the technical requirements to minimize the hazards listed in Clause 4 which can arise during the operation of tail lifts when carried out in accordance with the specifications as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer or his authorized representative.
It applies to tail lifts:
- used for the purpose of loading and/or unloading such vehicles;
- intended to be fitted, temporarily or permanently, either inside or on the front, side or rear of the wheeled vehicle;
- driven either by hand or power operated;
- equipped with a platform to support loads which comprise goods, an operator, or a combination of the two;
- with a maximum lifting height not exceeding 3 m above ground when the platform is unloaded;
- rotary type with a maximum lifting height not exceeding 2 m;
- used as a link bridge when intended by the manufacturer.
NOTE A tail lift is not to be confused with a link bridge attached to a loading dock which is included within the definition of a dock leveller and is outside the scope of this document.
Loading and/or unloading operations include the use of a tail lift to lift and/or lower loads.
This document does not establish the additional requirements for:
- the risk of falling when operating under 2 m height;
- overloading at vehicle floor level;
- drive system with lead screw and nuts;
- operation in severe conditions (e.g. extreme environmental conditions such as freezer applications, high temperatures, corrosive environment, tropical environment, contaminating environments, strong magnetic fields);
- operations subject to special rules (e.g. potentially explosive atmospheres);
- supply by electrical networks and the electrical circuit;
- power take off part of the system;
- electromagnetic compatibility (emission-immunity);
- static electricity problems;
- handling of loads the nature of which could lead to dangerous situations (e.g. molten metal, acids/bases, radiating materials, especially brittle loads);

1.1 Application
This European Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, marking and information to be provided by the manufacturer/supplier for Suspended Access Equipment (SAE).
It is applicable to both permanent and temporary equipment which may be powered or hand operated and which are defined in Clause 3.
The requirements of this standard include the rails, tracks and other support systems on which SAE depend for their integrity and safety as well as taking into account all associated loads and fixings to the building structure.
This document is not applicable to Suspended Access Equipment which is manufactured before the date of its publication as EN.
1.2 Hazards
This European Standard deals with significant hazards pertinent to SAE when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). This European Standard specifies appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards.
1.3 Exclusions
The following are not covered in this document:
a) operation in severe and special conditions (e.g. extreme environmental conditions, corrosive environments, strong magnetic fields);
b) operation subject to special rules (e.g. potentially explosive atmospheres, work on live overhead electrical lines);
c) transportation of passengers from one level to another;
d) handling of loads which could lead to a dangerous situation (e.g. molten metal, acids/bases, radioactive materials);
e) working platforms suspended by cranes;
f) silo access equipment;
g) SAE using chains for the direct suspension of a platform;
h) SAE using fibre ropes for the suspension of a platform;
i) SAE intended to be used underground;
j) SAE intended to be used in shafts;
k) SAE directly powered by combustion engines.

Part 2 of standard EN 1756 specifies safety requirements for design of tail lifts as defined in 3.1 for mounting on wheeled passenger vehicles.
Vehicles for the loading of disabled passengers onto aircraft and ships are included within the scope of the standard (although dock-mounted lifts are excluded).
It also specifies the verification of such tail lifts and the safety information that shall be provided for their use.

The standard covers the significant hazards which could occur when a tail lift is used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. A list of significant hazards is given in clause 4.
This document is not applicable to tail lifts which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

1.1 This European Standard deals with the technical requirements to minimise the risks due to the hazards listed in clause 4, which can arise during installation , operation and maintenance of permanently installed equipment and systems for the power driven parking of motor vehicles, as defined in 3.1 to 3.4 below. Requirements are also given on the provision of information for use, which includes requirements for the drafting of the instructions. Electromagnetic compatibility requirements are also covered.
1.2 This European Standard applies to equipment and systems for the power driven parking of motor vehicles which have four wheels, are within a maximum size envelope of 5,30 m long, by 2,30 m wide, by 2,20 m high and have a mass less than 2500 kg. The equipment can be manually or automatically controlled.
1.3 This standard does not cover:
a) vehicle lifts (see EN 1493);
b) peripheral devices, which do not handle motor vehicles, e.g. parking meters, ticket machines;
c) requirements related to the building even if they support directly stored vehicles;
d) goods only lifts in accordance with EN 81-31;
e) power driven parking equipment intended for lifting and/or transporting any person;
f) transmission and interface of remote controls;
g) automatic parking equipment with transfer areas which move;
h) the use of power driven parking equipment by wheelchair users and deaf persons;
i) the workplace of any attendant.
1.4 This standard does not deal with the following:
a) hazards arising if loads, or other items fall from vehicles;
b) hazards arising if fuel or oil leaks from vehicles;
c) hazards caused by operating the equipment/system in electromagnetic fields outside the range of
EN 61000-6-2;
d) hazards caused by operating the equipment/system in areas subject to special regulations (e.g. explosive atmospheres, fire risks);
e) hazards caused by the use of dangerous/toxic materials, e.g. special hydraulic oil;
