Overview
SIST EN 15467:2014/oprA1:2019 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies safety and hygiene requirements for automatic fish heading and filleting machines. These machines are widely used in the fish processing industry and are equipped with knives and auxiliary equipment such as knife holders and nobbing devices. The standard focuses on all significant hazards related to the design, construction, and operation of these machines, ensuring the safety of operators and maintaining hygienic conditions throughout the processing phases.
This standard covers safety during the entire lifecycle of such machinery, including assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, cleaning, fault finding, and maintenance. It is applicable to machines manufactured after the publication date of this standard, providing up-to-date guidelines aligned with modern safety and hygienic practices.
Key Topics
Safety Requirements: SIST EN 15467:2014/oprA1:2019 emphasizes the importance of protective measures such as guards, emergency stops, and safety-related control systems. It mandates the use of safety devices to prevent operator exposure to hazardous zones, including knife areas, in-feed belts, and transmission components.
Hygiene Requirements: The standard highlights hygienic design considerations, ensuring that fish heading and filleting machines are constructed to facilitate cleaning and prevent contamination within food processing environments.
Risk Management: It requires manufacturers to identify all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and relevant events when the machines are used as intended or under reasonably foreseeable misuse.
Control Systems: Specific requirements for the safety-related parts of control systems are detailed, aligned with the EN ISO 13849 series, ensuring functional reliability under fault conditions.
Protective Devices and Guards: The standard incorporates the latest references for fixed and movable guards design (EN ISO 14120:2015), including detailed guidance on trip devices, light barriers, and scanners to secure hazardous areas.
Noise Emission: Guidelines are included for measuring and limiting noise emissions, aiming to reduce occupational noise exposure during machine operation.
Intervention Safety: New clauses introduce personal protective equipment requirements during servicing and fault-finding when other safety solutions are insufficient.
Assembly and Maintenance Safety: The standard ensures that machine components, including knives and auxiliary equipment, are designed for safe transport and handling during installation and maintenance.
Applications
SIST EN 15467:2014/oprA1:2019 is essential for:
Fish Processing Plants: Machinery manufacturers and processors can apply these safety and hygiene requirements to ensure compliance with EU directives and enhance workplace safety.
Machine Designers and Manufacturers: To design automatic fish heading and filleting equipment that meets current European safety expectations, reducing liability and improving operator protection.
Safety Inspectors and Regulatory Bodies: For auditing and certifying fish processing machinery against recognized safety and hygiene standards.
Maintenance Teams and Operators: Providing guidelines to protect workers during machine operation, cleaning, and maintenance, minimizing risks of injury and contamination.
