members for enquiry.
Deadline for CENELEC: 2026-07-10.

It has been drawn up by CLC/TC 61.

If this draft becomes an amendment, CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.

This draft amendment was established by CENELEC in three official versions (English, French, German).
A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to
the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

48 This document has been prepared under a standardization request addressed to CENELEC by the European

59 Replace the paragraph starting from “As far as is practicable …” up to “…safely without supervision or
60 instruction.” with the following:
61 “This document deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances that are encountered
62 by all persons and domestic animals, when this is not in contradiction with the intended use of the appliance.”
63 Convert the paragraph starting with “Attention is drawn to the…” into Note 101.

65 “—  in some countries, specific legislation covers surfaces and materials in contact with food.”
66 Secretary note: The above list item is requested because there is no harmonized standards or legislation that

135 — details on the most appropriate part in the compartment of the appliance where specific types of food shall
136 be stored, considering the distribution of temperature that can be present in the different compartments of

138 — To avoid contamination of food, please respect the following instructions:
139 — Opening the door for long periods can cause a significant increase of the temperature in the
140 compartments of the appliance.
141 — Clean regularly surfaces that can come in contact with food and accessible drainage systems.
142 — Ensure the tank is cleaned to avoid chemical residue buildup.
143 — Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that it is not in contact with or drip
144 onto other food.
145 — If the refrigerating appliance is left empty for long periods, switch off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave
146 the door open to prevent mound developing within the appliance.”
147 Add the following:
148 “The packaging shall also marked with the maximum weight in kg of the appliance including accessories and its
149 packaging.
