Overview

SIST EN 2713-007:2006 is a European standard developed by CEN that defines requirements for screened (spiral) and jacketed electrical cables used in aerospace applications. These single and multicore cables are specifically designed for on-board aircraft electrical systems, operating efficiently in extreme temperature ranges from -55 °C to 200 °C. A key feature of these cables is their compatibility with UV laser marking, as well as markings by hot stamp or ink jet printing, in compliance with EN 3838 regulations.

This product standard ensures high reliability, safety, and traceability of aerospace electrical wiring while meeting stringent performance and quality assurance criteria developed under the aerospace series by AECMA (European Association of Aerospace Manufacturers).

Key Topics

  • Cable Construction and Materials

    • Cores made with copper conductors according to EN 2266-003
    • Screen: nickel-plated copper stranded spiral screen
    • Outer jacket: polyimide coated with fluorocarbon layers; top coat suitable for UV laser marking
    • Number of cores ranges from 1 to 4, twisted per EN 2235 guidelines
    • No filler cores permitted to ensure integrity and reliability
  • Marking and Identification

    • Unique UV laser printable coating ensures permanent, high-contrast markings
    • Alternative marking methods include hot stamp and ink jet printing
    • Markings follow EN 3838 for durability and legibility under aerospace conditions
  • Operating Temperature Range

    • Designed for extreme environments between -55 °C and +200 °C
    • Ensures durability and consistent electrical performance in harsh aircraft surroundings
  • Testing and Performance Requirements

    • Electrical resistance, insulation resistance, voltage proof, and mechanical stress tests
    • Thermal aging, cold bending, bending at ambient temperature, and flammability controls
    • Resistance to abrasion, notch propagation, and environmental factors
    • Compliance with EN 3475 test methods series guarantees cable reliability
  • Quality Assurance

    • Quality management and product qualification per EN 9133 procedures ensure reproducible high standards
    • Packaging and labeling standards guarantee correct delivery and traceability

Applications

EN 2713-007 cables are primarily intended for:

  • On-board aircraft electrical wiring systems
  • Use in avionics equipment and general electrical interconnections where screened protection is essential
  • Environments requiring cables able to withstand rapid temperature changes, vibrations, and mechanical stresses
  • Situations demanding reliable marking for part identification, maintenance, and safety audits

Their capability to resist extreme temperatures, mechanical wear, and to accept durable UV laser markings makes them indispensable in commercial and military aerospace sectors.
