Overview
FprEN 3155-003 - titled Aerospace series - Electrical contacts used in elements of connection - Part 003: Contacts, electrical, female, type A, crimp, class S - Product standard - is a CEN draft that defines product requirements for female Type A crimp contacts, class S, used in aerospace connection elements (used together with EN 3155‑001 and EN 3155‑002). The standard covers dimensional data, materials, surface treatment, marking, permissible cables, tooling, cable preparation and qualification tests for contacts intended for operation from −65 °C to 200 °C.
Keywords: FprEN 3155-003, aerospace electrical contacts, female contacts type A, crimp contacts, class S, EN 3155.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope & use: Product standard for female electrical contacts (Type A, crimp, class S) to be used with EN 3155‑002 contact lists and EN 3155‑001 technical specification. Associated male contacts: EN 3155‑008.
- Operating class: Class S - operating temperature range −65 °C to 200 °C.
- Dimensions & tolerances: Detailed dimensional drawings, gauges and mass for contact sizes (e.g., sizes #23, #22, #20, #16, #12, #10) with tolerances specified in millimetres after surface treatment.
- Materials & plating: Body material = copper alloy; surface treatment = gold over an appropriate undercoat (selective protection permitted); coating thickness referenced to EN 3155‑001.
- Marking: Colour-band identification according to ISO 8843 (table of band 1/2 colours per contact size).
- Permissible cables & currents: Tables listing conductor sizes (AWG and mm²), rated/test currents and ASD codes for each contact/barrel size.
- Tooling:
- Crimping tools conform to SAE‑AS22520 (M22520 series selectors referenced; TR 4837/TR 4843 guidance for applicable crimpers).
- Insertion/extraction tooling conform to SAE‑AS81969 (M81969 series part numbers listed).
- Cable stripping: Specified stripped lengths per contact/barrel size.
- Tests & qualification: Contacts to be tested mated in EN 4165 (sizes 23→12) or EN 3545 (size 10) connectors and tested in accordance with EN 3155‑001 and EN 2591 test methods (temperature cycling, contact performance, etc.).
