This part of ISO 21068 gives definitions and specifies techniques for the preparation of samples for the chemical analysis of silicon-carbide-containing raw materials and refractory products including:
a) SiC raw materials;
b) graphite brick containing silicon carbide;
c) silicon carbide brick (includes the bricks containing silicon nitride, silicon oxynitride, sialon);
d) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide mixed with clay;
e) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide mixed with silica (and fused silica);
f) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide mixed with high alumina material;
g) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide mixed with magnesia (and dolomite);
h) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide mixed with chrome mineral or magnesia-chrome materials;
i) refractories containing carbon and/or silicon carbide except those described in a) to g) above.
The items of chemical analysis described in ISO 21068, Parts 1 to 4 are as follows:
1) loss on drying (LOD);
2) loss on ignition (LOI);
3) total carbon, Ctotal;
4) free carbon, Cfree;
5) silicon carbide, SiC;
6) free silicon (Sifree);
7) free aluminium (Alfree);
8) free magnesium (Mgfree);
9) free iron (Fefree);
10) silicon(IV) dioxide (SiO2);
11) aluminium oxide (Al2O3);
12) iron(III) oxide (total iron oxide calculated as Fe2O3);
13) titanium(IV) oxide (TiO2);
14) calcium oxide (CaO);
15) magnesium oxide (MgO);
16) sodium oxide (Na2O);
17) potassium oxide (K2O);
18) chromium(III) oxide (Cr2O3);
19) zirconium oxide (ZrO2);
20) boron oxide (total boron calculated as B2O3);
21) nitrogen;
22) oxygen;
23) nitrides (undifferentiated: Si3N4, AlN, BN, sialon, oxy-nitrides, etc.);
24) XRD-methods.

Dieses Dokument legt Definitionen und Verfahren der Probenvorbereitung zur chemischen Analyse von Siliciumcarbid enthaltenden Rohstoffen und feuerfesten Erzeugnissen fest, einschließlich Folgendem:
a) SiC-Rohstoffe;
b) Graphitziegel, der Siliciumcarbid enthält;
c) Siliciumcarbid-Ziegel (einschließlich Ziegel, die Siliciumnitrid, Siliciumoxynitrid, Sialon enthalten);
d) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid, gemischt mit Tonerde, enthalten;
e) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid, gemischt mit Siliciumdioxid (und Quarzglas), enthalten;
f) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid, gemischt mit Werkstoffen mit hohem Anteil an Aluminiumoxid, enthalten;
g) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid, gemischt mit Magnesiumoxid (und Dolomit) enthalten;
h) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid, gemischt mit Chrommineralien oder Magnesiumoxid-Chromoxid-Werkstoffen, enthalten;
i) feuerfeste Erzeugnisse, die Kohlenstoff und/oder Siliciumcarbid enthalten und nicht unter a) bis h) aufgeführt sind.
Gegenstand der in ISO 21068 2, ISO 21068 3 und ISO 21068 4 beschriebenen Analysen ist Folgendes:
Trocknungsverlust (LOD, en: loss on drying);
Glühverlust (LOI, en: loss on ignition);
Gesamtkohlenstoff Cgesamt;
freier Kohlenstoff Cfrei;
Siliciumcarbid SiC;
freies Silicium (Sifrei);
freies Aluminium (Alfrei);

Aluminium(III)-oxid (Al2O3);

Chrom(III)-oxid (Cr2O3);

Le présent document donne des définitions et spécifie des techniques de préparation des échantillons pour l'analyse chimique des matières premières et des produits réfractaires contenant du carbure de silicium comprenant:
a) matières premières contenant du carbure du silicium;
b) brique de graphite contenant du carbure de silicium;
c) brique de carbure de silicium (inclut les briques contenant du nitrure de silicium, de l’oxynitrure de silicium, du SIAlON);
d) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium mélangés à de l’argile;
e) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium mélangés à de la silice (et de la silice vitreuse);
f) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium mélangés à des matériaux à haute teneur en alumine;
g) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium mélangés à de la magnésie (ou de la dolomite);
h) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium mélangés à des minéraux contenant du chrome ou des matériaux de magnésie-chrome;
i) réfractaires contenant du carbone et/ou du carbure de silicium sauf ceux décrits ci-dessus en a) et h).
L'ISO 21068-2, l'ISO 21068-3 et l'ISO 21068-4 décrivent des analyses chimiques sur:
— la perte au séchage (LOD);
— la perte au feu (LOI);
— le carbone total, Ctotal;
— le carbone libre, Clibre;
— le carbure de silicium, SiC;
— le silicium libre (Silibre);
— l’aluminium libre (Allibre);
— le magnésium libre (Mglibre);
— le fer libre (Felibre);
— l’oxyde de silicium (IV) (SiO2);
— l’oxyde d'aluminium (Al2O3);

— l’oxyde de magnésium (MgO);
— l’oxyde de sodium (Na2O);
— l’oxyde de potassium (K2O);
— l’oxyde de chrome (III) (Cr2O3);
— l’oxyde de zirconium (ZrO2);
— l’oxyde de bore (bore total calculé comme B2O3);
— l’azote;
— l’oxygène;
— les nitrures (indifférencié: Si3N4, AlN, BN, SiAlON, oxynitrures, etc.);
— les phases minéralogiques (méthodes de DRX).

Ta del standarda ISO 21068 podaja definicije in določa tehnike za pripravo vzorcev za kemijsko analizo surovin in ognjevzdržnih izdelkov, ki vsebujejo silicijev karbid, kar vključuje:
a) surovine iz silicijevega karbida (SiC);
b) grafitne opeke, ki vsebujejo silicijev karbid;

i) ognjevzdržni materiali, ki vsebujejo ogljik in/ali silicijev karbid, razen materialov, opisanih v točkah od a) do
g) zgoraj.
V delih 1 do 4 standarda ISO 21068 so opisani naslednji elementi kemijske analize:

This document (EN ISO 21068-1:2024) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 33
"Refractories" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 187 “Refractory products and
materials” the secretariat of which is held by BSI.

— The Scope was adjusted according to the Scope of the revised versions of ISO 21068-2, ISO 21068-3 and
ISO 21068-4;
— Table 1 was removed as this is now part of the revised versions of ISO 21068-2, ISO 21068-3 and
ISO 21068-4;
— The list of documents in Clause 2 has been adjusted;
— Clause 3 was adjusted to the revised versions of ISO 21068-2, ISO 21068-3 and ISO 21068-4;
— The weighing procedure has been removed as it can be assumed as general knowledge of the user of the
ISO 21068 series;
— Bibliography was adjusted to this document.

The ISO 21068 series has been developed from the combination of EN 12698-1:2007 and EN 12698-
[2] [3] [4] [5]
2:2007 and ISO 21068-1:2008 , ISO 21068-2:2008 and ISO 21068-3:2008 . The last three standards

have been originally developed from the combination of Japanese standard JIS R 2011:2007 and work items
developed within CEN. Because there is a wide variety of laboratory equipment in use, the most commonly
used methods are described.
