Overview - EN 2267-009:2017 (DRA family)

EN 2267-009:2017 is a CEN aerospace product standard for the DRA family of lightweight electrical wires intended for aircraft AC systems. The title references operating temperatures between −55 °C and 260 °C, while the standard scope specifies −65 °C to 260 °C for on‑board use in 115 V (phase-to-neutral) or 200 V (phase-to-phase) AC systems. These DRA cables are arc resistant for conductor sizes AWG 26 to AWG 14 and may be used at 230/400 V AC in pressurised zones when installation accounts for short‑circuit effects.

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Materials and construction
    • Conductors: copper or copper alloy, nickel plated per EN 4434 / EN 2083.
    • Insulation: defined to meet required characteristics in Clause 5.
    • Single and multicore assemblies; colour coding and cabling per EN 2267-002 and EN 2235.
  • Electrical and mechanical properties
    • Suitable for aircraft AC distribution: 115/200 V AC (primary) and controlled use at 230/400 V AC in pressurised zones.
    • Nominal conductor sections from very small AWG sizes up to large mm2 codes (tableed in the standard).
  • Environmental and performance tests (reference EN 3475 series)
    • Temperature endurance and accelerated ageing (up to 260–310 °C test regimes).
    • Thermal shock and cold‑bend tests (including −65 °C exposure).
    • Flammability (method 1) - extinguishing time ≤ 3 s.
    • Wet/dry arc tracking, wet short‑circuit and resistance to fluids.
    • Mechanical tests: dynamic cut‑through, scrape abrasion, torsion, flexure endurance, and strippability.
    • Smoke density and toxicity requirements.
  • Quality, identification and delivery
    • Quality assurance per EN 9133; designation, marking, packaging and delivery lengths referenced to EN 2084/EN 2267-002.

Practical applications

  • Wiring harnesses and power distribution in commercial and military aircraft where lightweight, high‑temperature, arc‑resistant conductors are required.
  • Avionics and onboard electrical systems operating at 115/200 V AC (and limited 230/400 V AC use in pressurised zones).
  • Replacements, procurement specifications and supplier quality control for aerospace cable manufacturers.

Who should use this standard

  • Aerospace cable manufacturers and material suppliers
  • Aircraft OEMs, harness designers and electrical engineers
  • Certification authorities, procurement and QA teams responsible for part qualification and compliance

Related standards

  • EN 2083, EN 2084 (conductors and cable technical spec)
