It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in this standard.
NOTE Z104 Attention is drawn to the fact that
_ for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;
_ in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.
NOTE Z105 This standard does not apply to
_ slicing machines having a circular knife the blade of which is inclined at an angle exceeding 45° to the vertical;

SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 60335-2-14/A11:2012 from CENELEC. It amends the household-appliance safety standard for electric kitchen machines with rated voltage not more than 250 V, adding particular requirements for marking, instructions, temperature rise, accessibility and mechanical strength.
What does SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 specify?
SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 sets safety requirements for electric kitchen machines used for household and similar purposes. It replaces the scope clause of Part 1 and then modifies Clause 5.2, Clause 7, Clause 11, Clause 20 and Clause 21.
The scope covers machines such as blenders, food mixers, food processors, can openers, juicers, grinders, graters, knife sharpeners, mincers, potato peelers, shredders and slicing machines. It also includes appliances used by laymen in shops and other premises for normal housekeeping purposes, so the intended user environment is broader than a private home.
The standard is aimed at household and similar environments, including dwellings and associated buildings, gardens, shops, farm houses, hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfast type premises. It excludes commercial, industrial and special-location use, and it excludes several named product types and special slicing machines.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012?
Marking and user instructions
Clause 7.10 requires the accessible switch for starting and stopping the function to be clearly distinguishable from other manual controls by its shape, size, texture, position or similar features. In practice, the user must be able to find and identify the control quickly, and the appliance must give tactile or audible and visual feedback that the control has operated.
A selector switch with a clearly identifiable off-position is allowed, and an ON/OFF switch may be used to stop the function. A plug is not considered suitable for stopping the function because vulnerable users may not be able to reach it easily.
Clause 7.12 strengthens the instructions. The manual must warn about injury from misuse, tell the user to disconnect the appliance when it is left unattended and before assembly, disassembly or cleaning, and include age and supervision warnings for the appliance types named in the clause.
Temperature rise and access to moving parts
Clause 11.8 replaces the temperature-rise row for external enclosures and adds Table Z101. The table gives different limits for bare metal, coated metal, glass and ceramic, and plastic or plastic-coated surfaces, so the design and material choice must keep accessible outer surfaces within the allowed heating levels.
Clause 20.2 changes the accessibility checks with test probes B and 18. For the appliance types and parts listed in the clause, these probes are not applied, which narrows the hazard check to the parts that remain relevant.
The clause also identifies certain shafts, grating and shredding disk outlets, and small projections that are treated differently. In practice, designers may need collars, recesses or other guarding so that accessible drive parts do not create a contact hazard.
Mechanical strength
Clause 21.Z101 adds a drop test for hand-held appliances. The appliance is operated at rated voltage, allowed to reach normal load, then dropped freely from 700 mm onto a rigidly supported hardwood board three times in different likely positions, using a new appliance for each test.
The appliance must not be damaged so that compliance with the standard, especially Clauses 8 and 29, is impaired. This matters for portable kitchen machines because it checks whether a realistic handling drop creates exposed hazards or functional failure.
What terms does SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 define?
- Kitchen machines - Electric appliances for kitchen functions such as mixing, grinding, slicing or juicing.
- Laymen - Non-expert users who operate appliances for normal housekeeping purposes.
- Rated voltage - The maximum supply voltage stated for the appliance; this standard applies up to 250 V.
- Test probe B - A standard access probe used to check whether dangerous parts can be reached.
- Test probe 18 - A larger access probe used for a different accessibility check on moving and live parts.
- Hand-held appliances - Portable appliances intended to be held in use, which are subject to the drop test in Clause 21.Z101.
Who uses SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012?
Manufacturers and importers of kitchen machines use SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 when designing products for the household and similar market. It helps them set controls, instructions, surface temperatures and mechanical robustness to match the intended use.
Test laboratories and certification bodies use it for safety testing, especially access checks, temperature-rise measurements and the drop test for hand-held appliances. Quality managers and buyers use it to judge whether a product belongs in this category or should instead be treated as a commercial, industrial or special-environment machine.
What changed in SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 is amendment A11 to EN 60335-2-14:2006. The amendment adds or revises:
- the scope wording in Clause 1
- the control marking and indication text in Clause 7.10
- the user-instruction warnings in Clause 7.12
- the external-enclosure temperature-rise requirements in Clause 11.8 and Table Z101
- the access-probe treatment in Clause 20.2
- the drop test for hand-held appliances in Clause 21.Z101
It also states that it supplements or modifies EN 60335-1:2012, EN 60335-2-14:2006 and EN 60335-2-14:2006/A1:2008.

| EN 60335-2-64 | Named in the exclusions for commercial kitchen machines |
What does the SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 document contain?
SIST EN 60335-2-14:2007/A11:2012 contains replacement text for the scope clause, amended marking and instruction clauses, a revised temperature-rise table, access-probe restrictions, and an added drop test for hand-held appliances. It also includes notes and examples that show which kitchen machines are in scope and which are excluded.
The document uses Z-prefixed national or European additions and notes to show where it differs from the underlying IEC-based text. Its practical content is mainly about how to design, label, instruct and test electric kitchen machines so they can be assessed against the safety standard.
