SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 is a CEN amendment to the European standard for traffic and travel information messages coded for Radio Data System-Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC) using ALERT-C. It updates the event and information code list in EN ISO 14819-2:2021 so road-traffic systems can add the new holiday-related message entries in a consistent way.
What does SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 specify?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 specifies a narrow update to the code tables used for RDS-TMC traffic messages. The amendment works with the base standard and adds new holiday-related entries in the main code table and in Annex C.
The document is organized around the amendment instructions for:
- Clause 4.2.2, Table 3
- Annex C, Table C.1
In practice, that means users update both the core code list and the annex presentation so messages and implementations stay aligned.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 makes two coordinated additions to the RDS-TMC event and information code set. The same new message concepts appear in the main table and in Annex C, so implementers must reflect both places when they update software, data files or message catalogs.
Clause 4.2.2, Table 3
The amendment adds one event/information entry for a traffic situation linked to a national holiday and one for a similar situation linked to a regional holiday. In practice, this lets a traffic information provider distinguish holiday-related traffic conditions instead of using a generic event.
Annex C, Table C.1
Annex C adds the same two entries in the annex presentation used for CEN wording. This matters for documentation, localized outputs and systems that rely on the annex tables as the human-readable reference.
The key practical effect is simple: if a system encodes or displays RDS-TMC event and information messages, its code list needs to include the new holiday-related entries in both the main table and the annex mirror.
What terms does SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 define?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 uses the main terms and abbreviations of the underlying RDS-TMC standard.
- RDS-TMC - Radio Data System-Traffic Message Channel, the broadcast channel used to carry coded traffic messages.
- ALERT-C - the coding system used with RDS-TMC in this part for traffic event and information messages.
- ITS - Intelligent transport systems, the wider application area for the standard.
- CEN - European Committee for Standardization, the European standards body that adopted this amendment.
- ISO - International Organization for Standardization, the international standards body that published the amendment.
- traffic message coding - the method of turning traffic and travel information into coded messages that systems can transmit and interpret.
Who uses SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 is used by engineers and product teams working on ITS services that create, transmit or decode RDS-TMC traffic messages. It is also relevant to service operators, integrators and quality managers who maintain message catalogs or verify that traffic-event coding matches the standard.
In practice, people use it when they:
- update message databases
- implement broadcast traffic-information software
- check that coding tables and message outputs match the standard
- maintain road transport information services
What changed in SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 is Amendment 1 to EN ISO 14819-2:2021. It adds holiday-related event and information entries in Clause 4.2.2, Table 3, and the matching entries in Annex C, Table C.1.
Which standards are used with SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026?
SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 is the European adoption of ISO 14819-2:2021/Amd 1:2026. It modifies EN ISO 14819-2:2021, so users apply it together with that base standard.
What does the SIST EN ISO 14819-2:2021/A1:2026 document contain?
The document contains the European foreword, the endorsement notice, and the amendment instructions. The technical content is limited to the updates in Clause 4.2.2, Table 3, and Annex C, Table C.1.
For readers, that means the document is mainly a change notice, not a full rewrite of the traffic-code standard. For implementers, the important task is to carry the new entries into code lists, software, documentation and any generated message output that follows the standard.
