Overview
ISO 19013-1:2026 establishes the specifications for rubber hoses and tubing used in the fuel circuits of internal combustion engines, focusing specifically on those circuits carrying diesel fuels, including blends containing up to 20% by volume of rapeseed methyl ester “bio-diesel.” Developed by ISO/TC 45/SC 1, this international standard supports manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and suppliers by outlining requirements for performance, materials, dimensions, and testing. With the increasing use of bio-diesel blends and growing emphasis on fuel system reliability, ISO 19013-1:2026 provides vital guidance for ensuring the safety, performance, and compatibility of rubber hoses and tubing in diverse diesel fuel environments.
Key Topics
- Product Classification: The standard classifies hoses and tubing into multiple types and classes based on application, pressure rating, and temperature range, from pressurized feed and return lines to low-pressure filler and vent lines.
- Material and Construction Requirements: Specifies allowable construction types, including reinforced and non-reinforced extruded rubber, with optional internal or liner barrier layers for enhanced resistance to fuel and vapor permeability.
- Dimensional Specifications: Outlines precise inside diameters, wall thicknesses, and concentricity tolerances for both tubing and hose assemblies to ensure reliable fit and function.
- Performance Criteria: Sets comprehensive performance and test requirements, such as:
- Burst pressure
- Adhesion between layers
- Low-temperature flexibility
- Internal cleanliness and extractable wax content
- Tear resistance (for tubing)
- Ozone and heat aging resistance
- Resistance to kinking, suction, contamination, fuels, and burn-through
- Electrical resistance
- Life-cycle endurance (for Types 1, 2, 3)
- Testing and Marking: Details type approval, routine, and production acceptance testing, as well as marking requirements for traceability, including manufacturer identifiers, standard reference, dimensions, fuel type, manufacturing date, and recycling code.
Applications
ISO 19013-1:2026 serves as a critical standard for:
- Automotive Manufacturers and OEMs: Ensures that rubber hoses and tubing integrated into diesel fuel circuits meet stringent international quality and safety standards, supporting vehicle reliability and warranty compliance.
- Aftermarket and Replacement Parts: Guides manufacturers in producing hoses and tubing for use in replacement or retrofitting diesel fuel circuits, including applications with bio-diesel.
- Industrial and Agricultural Machinery: Applied in the construction of internal combustion fuel systems across a range of machinery requiring high-performance fluid conveyance components.
- Testing Laboratories: Provides a framework for certified laboratories to perform key testing and inspection activities, ensuring manufactured products meet or exceed the specifications.
- Environmental Compliance: Assists organizations in selecting materials and designs compatible with bio-diesel and resistant to contaminant permeation, supporting regulatory and sustainability objectives.
Related Standards
ISO 19013-1:2026 references and complements several other international standards to ensure holistic performance and compliance:
- ISO 1402: Hydrostatic testing for hoses
- ISO 1817 and EN 14214: Evaluation of resistance to various liquid fuels, including bio-diesel blends
- ISO 3302-1: Dimensional tolerances for rubber products
- ISO 8031/8033: Electrical and adhesion properties of hoses
- ISO 10619-1/10619-2: Methods for measuring flexibility and stiffness at different temperatures
- ISO 4671: Methods for measuring hose dimensions
- SAE J2027, J2044, J2260: North American standards for protective covers, quick connect couplings, and nonmetallic fuel system tubing
For organizations designing, specifying, or testing rubber fuel hoses and tubing for diesel systems, ISO 19013-1:2026 is an essential benchmark supporting product reliability, safety, and global market access.
