Simultaneous interpreting — Quality and transmission of sound and image input — Requirements
ISO 20108:2017 sets out requirements for the quality and transmission of sound and image input to interpreters and specifies the characteristics of the audio and video signals. The components of typical interpreting systems are specified in ISO 20109. Together with either permanent (see ISO 2603) or mobile (see ISO 4043) booths, these interpreting systems form the interpreters' working environment. In addition to setting out the requirements for on-site interpreting, where participants (speakers and members of the audience) and interpreters are at the same location, ISO 20108:2017 specifies requirements for different varieties of distance interpreting situations in which the interpreters are not at the same location as one or more of the conference participants. ISO 20108:2017 also addresses the work of manufacturers and providers of simultaneous interpreting equipment and technical staff. In conjunction with either ISO 2603 or ISO 4043, ISO 20108:2017 and ISO 20109 provide the relevant requirements both for the quality and transmission of sound and image provided to interpreters and for the equipment needed in the booths, the conference room and the distant site(s).

L'ISO 20108 :2017 définit les exigences de qualité et de transmission du son et de l'image transmis aux interprètes et précise les caractéristiques des signaux audio-vidéo. Les composants des systèmes d'interprétation conventionnels sont définis par l'ISO 20109. Avec des cabines permanentes (ISO 2603) ou transportables (ISO 4043), ces systèmes d'interprétation constituent l'environnement de travail des interprètes. En plus de définir les exigences pour l'interprétation sur site, où les participants (orateurs et membres de l'assistance) et les interprètes se trouvent dans un même lieu, cette norme définit également les exigences pour différentes typologies d'interprétation à distance, où les interprètes et un ou plusieurs participants à la conférence se trouvent dans des lieux différents. Ce document couvre également le travail des fabricants et fournisseurs d'équipement d'interprétation simultanée et du personnel technique. Conjointement avec l'ISO 2603 ou l'ISO 4043, l'ISO 20108 :2017 et l'ISO 20109 définissent les exigences relatives tant à la qualité et à la transmission du son et de l'image fournis aux interprètes, qu'au matériel requis dans les cabines, la salle de conférence et le(s) site(s) distant(s).
