This draft amendment prAA, if approved, will modify the European Standard prEN IEC 60335-2-17:2024; it is submitted to CENELEC
members for enquiry.
Deadline for CENELEC: 2024-08-16.

It has been drawn up by CLC/TC 61.

If this draft becomes an amendment, CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.

This draft amendment was established by CENELEC in three official versions (English, French, German).
A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to
the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as the official versions.

14 1 Modification to the Introduction
15 Addition:
16 With European amendment A11, EN 60335-2-17:2013+A1:2020+A2:2021+A11:2019 is superseded.
17 This European amendment A11 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of the standards below:

20 2 Modification to Clause 1, “Scope”
21 Replace the sixth paragraph starting with " As far as is practicable,…" up to "… in general, it does not take
22 into account " except for the dashed items with the following:
23 “This standard deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances and machines that are
24 encountered by all persons. However, in general, it does not take into account:”
25 Add before the sixth paragraph starting with “Attention is drawn to the fact” the following:
26 “It is recognized that people with disabilities can have needs beyond the level addressed in this standard.”
27 3 Modification to Clause 2, “Normative references”

32 In the eighth paragraph starting with “The instructions shall state the substance of the following”, add the
33 following dashed items:

35 — The appliance can be used by children older than 3 years and younger than 8 years under supervision
36 and with the control always set to minimum temperature value
37 — If the appliance is equipped with a remote operation the instructions shall include the substance of the
38 following warnings:
39 WARNING — disconnect the remote operation function before the appliance comes into contact with the
40 user.
41 WARNING — appliances are not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate
42 remote-control system.”
Secretary Note: the above sentence is in line with decision taken in document 61/6883A/INF. The
above sentence is mandatory for addressing the ERs and link the standard to RED
43 Delete the paragraph starting with "The instruction shall state that the appliance is not to be used by young
44 children over the age of three unless…".
45 Add the following after the last paragraph:

46 “The cable and control unit of the appliance can give rise to risks of entanglement, strangulation, tripping or
47 treading if not correctly arranged. The user shall make sure that excess ties and electric cords shall be
48 arranged in a safe way.”
49 7.12.1 Addition:
50 “The instructions shall state that any repairs shall be carried out by competent persons.”
51 5 Modification to Clause 11, “Heating”

53 “For remote operation of appliances, the test is repeated with the control units and cord switches adjusted to
54 the highest setting and maximum duration of operation that can be set for remote operation.”

56 22.40 Replace the second paragraph and the NOTE with the following:
