This document is applicable to electric light sources (see Note 1) for use in automotive applications, for example in road illumination devices and/or light signalling devices for road vehicles. It is especially applicable to light sources listed in UN Resolution R.E.5 and light sources subject to other legislations. This document specifies the technical requirements for interchangeability for example dimensional, electrical and photometrical characteristics, and includes test methods. For the light sources listed in this document, the data sheets are contained either in this document or are included by reference to UN Resolution R.E.5. Performance requirements are specified in IEC 60810, for example life, torsion strength, resistance to vibration and shock. The requirements for miniature light sources for supplementary purposes, not subject to legislation, are specified in IEC 60983. NOTE 1 The terms "lamp" and "light source" are both used in this document to mean the same product, so the two terms are interchangeable throughout this document. NOTE 2 In various vocabularies and standards, different terms are used for "incandescent lamp" (IEC 60050845:1987, 845-07-04), "discharge lamp" (IEC 60050-845:1987, 845-07-17) and "LED lamp". In this document "filament lamp", "discharge lamp" and "LED light source" are used, however, where only "lamp" or "light source" is written, all light sources, independent of the technology used, are meant, unless the context clearly shows that it applies to one kind of technology only. In the UN Regulations, the word "light source" is used for the products specified in this document. NOTE 3 Wherever the term "device" is used, it is meant to designate equipment which is used as a luminaire. It can for instance take the form and purpose of a headlight or signal light.

IEC 60432-3:2012 specifies the safety requirements for single-capped and double-capped tungsten halogen lamps, having rated voltages of up to 250 V, used for the following applications: - projection (including cinematograph and still projection), - photographic (including studio), - floodlighting, - special purpose, - general purpose, - stage lighting. This second edition of IEC 60432-3 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2002, Amendment 1 (2005) and Amendment 2 (2008). The main changes with respect to the previous edition are as follows: - adapting the cold fill pressure requirements and tests for self-shielded lamps to the state of the technology, - introduction of requirements to fully cover photobiological safety according to IEC 62471.

This part of IEC 60432 specifies the safety and the related interchangeability requirements of tungsten halogen lamps for general lighting service. It covers those tungsten halogen lamps that are used as direct replacements for conventional tungsten filament lamps as well as new tungsten halogen lamps which have no correspondence in IEC 60432-1, but for which the safety and interchangeability requirements are treated by this standard in conjunction with IEC 60432-1. These tungsten halogen lamps have the following characteristics:
– rated wattage up to and including 250 W;
– rated voltage of 50 V to 250 V inclusive;
– caps B15d, B22d, E12, E14, E17, E26, E26d, E26/5039, E27 or E27/5139.
This standard also covers single-ended lamps, within the above ratings, which are not direct
replacements for conventional tungsten filament lamps, but serve the same purpose.
NOTE 1 There is no implication that a tungsten halogen lamp used as a substitute for an incandescent tungsten filament lamp would use the same bulb shape as the original incandescent lamp. NOTE 2 There are two variations of E26 caps which are not fully compatible. E26/24 caps are used in North merica and E26/25 caps are used in Japan.

International Standard IEC 60432-1 specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements of
tungsten filament incandescent lamps for general lighting service having:
– rated wattage up to and including 200 W;
– rated voltage of 50 V to 250 V inclusive;
– bulbs of the A, B, C, G, M, P, PS, PAR or R shapes* , or other bulb shapes where the lamps
are intended to serve the same purpose as lamps with the foregoing bulb shapes;
– bulbs with all kinds of finishes;
– caps B15d, B22d, E12, E14, E17, E26** , E26d, E26/5039, E27 or E27/5139.
As far as is reasonably practicable, this standard is also applicable to lamps with bulbs and caps other than those mentioned above, but which serve the same purpose. This standard specifies the method a manufacturer should use to show that his product conforms to this standard on the basis of whole production appraisal in association with his test records on finished products. This method can also be applied for certification purposes. Details of a batch test procedure which can be used to make limited assessment of batches are also given. This standard is concerned with safety criteria only and does not take into account the performance of tungsten filament lamps with respect to luminous flux, life or power consumption characteristics. Readers should refer to IEC 60064 for such characteristics with respect to types normally used for general lighting service.

Method of measurement of centre beam intensity and beam angle(s) of reflector lamps

IEC/TR 61341:2010 describes the method of measuring and specifying the centre beam intensity and the associated beam angle(s) of reflector lamps. It applies to: - incandescent, - tungsten halogen, - gas-discharge and LED based reflector lamps for general lighting purposes. It does not apply to lamps for special purposes such as projection lamps. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1994 and constitutes a technical revision. Due to the increasing use of reflector equipped LED lamps, the scope has been broadened and measurement conditions been included in order to take account of these lamps. Further, for easier understanding of the relation between the different axis and different intensities, two figures have been added. The luminous intensity distribution shall be reported instead of the centre beam intensity, if the latter is very low ("butterfly" distributions).
