Overview
EN 2592:1990 is a European product standard developed by CEN that defines the specifications for three-pole temperature compensated circuit breakers specifically designed for aerospace applications. These circuit breakers have rated currents ranging from 0.5 A up to 25 A, making them suitable for various electrical protection needs within aerospace electrical systems. The standard ensures that the products conform to stringent safety and performance requirements, including explosion-proof construction and reliable operation under short circuit conditions.
This standard is essential for manufacturers, engineers, and quality assurance professionals involved in designing and maintaining aerospace electrical equipment and systems. EN 2592:1990 promotes uniformity and enhances safety by providing clear technical requirements for these specialized circuit breakers.
Key Topics
- Three-pole circuit breakers: The standard focuses exclusively on three-pole devices, allowing protection across three separate electrical lines simultaneously.
- Temperature compensation: The circuit breakers are temperature compensated to maintain consistent performance across a wide temperature range, critical for aerospace environments where temperature fluctuations are common.
- Rated currents from 0.5 A to 25 A: This range supports a broad variety of aerospace circuits, ensuring flexibility in protection options.
- Push-pull button operation: Designed for ease of use, the breakers operate via a single push-pull button mechanism with a trip-free release for enhanced safety.
- Delayed tripping: The breakers incorporate a trip delay feature to prevent nuisance trips caused by temporary overloads, improving system reliability.
- Explosion proof design: Safety is paramount in aerospace, and these breakers are built to be explosion-proof to prevent catastrophic failures in hazardous environments.
- Short circuit operation: EN 2592 guarantees that circuit breakers can handle and interrupt current up to short circuit levels reliably.
Applications
The EN 2592:1990 standard applies primarily within aerospace electrical systems where reliable overload and short circuit protection for three-phase circuits is critical. Typical applications include:
- Electrical power distribution units in aircraft and spacecraft
- Protection of avionics and control systems requiring three-pole protection
- High-reliability circuits subjected to temperature variations and potential explosive atmospheres
- Maintenance and replacement components for aerospace electrical cabinets and panels
By adhering to this standard, aerospace manufacturers and maintenance organizations can ensure consistent quality and safety in circuit protection components, important for the operational integrity of aerospace vehicles.
