Overview
EN 2602:2005 (Aerospace series) defines the dimensional characteristics and geometric configuration of ports for threaded adaptors that use a lockring and an elastomer O‑ring. Published by CEN and prepared by AECMA‑STAN, this European Standard applies to all adaptors with lockring whose port end is defined by EN 2603. The standard supports consistent design, manufacturing and interchangeability of fluid system connections in aerospace applications.
Key Topics
- Scope and applicability: Dimensional geometry for ports intended to accept threaded adaptors with lockring and elastomer O‑ring assemblies.
- Normative references: Essential cross references include ISO 5855‑1 and ISO 5855‑3 (MJ threads) and related EN standards EN 2603, EN 2604, EN 2605 and EN 2606.
- Required characteristics: The standard specifies port geometry, thread interfaces, tooling-related dimensions and surface roughness requirements (see Figure 1 of the standard) unless otherwise defined in design documentation.
- Cross references and tables: Tabulated codes and dimensions link port nominal pipe sizes to MJ thread designations and to the geometric configurations used for 8°30', 24° and 60° adaptor interfaces.
- Designation: Example identity block format is given (e.g., EN 2602-10) to indicate standard number and port code.
Applications
EN 2602:2005 is intended for engineers, designers and manufacturers working on aerospace fluid systems where reliable threaded adaptor connections are required. Practical uses include:
- Ensuring interchangeability between mating components across suppliers and maintenance organizations.
- Defining port geometry to achieve consistent O‑ring sealing performance when used with lockring adaptors.
- Providing clear manufacturing and inspection dimensions for machining, broaching and finishing of adaptor ports.
- Supporting certification and compliance activities by referencing harmonized European dimensions and thread interfaces.
Benefits include reduced design ambiguity, improved supply‑chain compatibility, and lower risk of leakage due to improper port configuration.
Related Standards
- EN 2603 - Port ends for adaptors, threaded, with lockring - Geometric configuration (port end definition referenced by EN 2602).
- EN 2604 / EN 2605 / EN 2606 - Geometric configurations for 8°30', 24° and 60° adaptor interfaces (cross‑referenced for interface profiles).
- ISO 5855‑1 / ISO 5855‑3 - MJ thread general requirements and limit dimensions used for MJ thread profiles in the tables.
For implementation, refer to the tables and figures in EN 2602:2005 for port codes, tooling dimensions and surface finish guidance. Use the designation examples in the standard to document port specification in technical drawings and part lists.
