Overview
The EN 2286:2025 standard, published by CEN (European Committee for Standardization), defines the specifications for aerospace flanged bushes made from aluminium alloys that incorporate a self-lubricating liner. These bushes are designed primarily for assembly with an interference fit in fixed and moving aerospace components. The document details the dimensions, loads, materials, surface treatments, and design recommendations to ensure optimal performance for high-demand aerospace applications.
This updated 2025 edition supersedes EN 2286:2017, reflecting advancements in materials, marking codes, and temperature range considerations. It harmonizes manufacturing and quality standards across European aerospace industries, supporting reliable and durable component design.
Key Topics
Material Specifications
- Aluminium alloys compliant with EN 2086, EN 2701, or EN 2704 standards.
- Operating temperature range: −55 °C to 163 °C depending on alloy code.
- Self-lubricating liner material meeting the EN 2311 technical specification ensures wear resistance and reduced maintenance.
Dimensions and Configuration
- Standardized bush dimensions and masses outlined in tables with tolerance values for precision engineering.
- Configuration includes chamfers and radii for easy assembly and bonding.
- Dimensions apply after surface treatment, maintaining consistency across production batches.
Surface Treatments
- Chromic acid anodizing (EN 2101 Types A and B) and sulphuric acid anodizing (EN 2284 Types A and B).
- Surface treatments provide corrosion protection and pre-treatment for painting, ensuring durability in harsh aerospace environments.
Load Capacities
- Detailed permissible static and dynamic radial and axial loads for various bush sizes.
- Load calculations consider interference fit mounting and shaft/housing design factors.
- Hardness and surface roughness requirements for shafts are specified for optimal bush performance.
Marking & Designation
- Marking per EN 2424 standards, accommodating parts too small for standard marks with alternative styles.
- Designations include diameter, length, technology code, surface treatment, and material identifiers to streamline identification and traceability.
Design Recommendations
- Emphasis on assembly by interference fit into shafts and housings, with specified tolerances (housing D H7, shaft d f6).
- Minimum shaft hardness of 50 HRC and defined surface roughness promote optimal bush operation.
- Attention to potential variations in friction coefficients due to shaft characteristics and installation conditions.
Applications
EN 2286:2025 flanged bushes with self-lubricating liners are critical components used in various aerospace assemblies, such as:
- Aircraft landing gear mechanisms
- Control surface actuators
- Engine components subject to rotational movement
- Aerospace structural linkages requiring reliable sliding elements
These bushes contribute to reduced maintenance and improved reliability by providing consistent lubrication without external application, essential in high-performance aerospace environments where weight, durability, and safety are paramount.
Related Standards
Key related standards supporting EN 2286:2025 include:
- EN 2311 – Technical specification for bushes with self-lubricating liners
- EN 2086 – Aluminium alloy AL-P2618A-T851 forgings for aerospace
- EN 2101 and EN 2284 – Anodizing processes for aluminium alloys providing corrosion resistance and surface finish enhancements
- EN 2424 – Aerospace series marking of products to ensure traceability and compliance
- EN 2701 and EN 2704 – Specifications for aerospace-grade aluminium alloy tubes and bars
