Overview - EN 2087:2025 (Aerospace series)
EN 2087:2025 is a CEN aerospace material standard that specifies requirements for aluminium alloy AL‑P2014A supplied as clad sheets and strips in temper T6 or T62, with nominal thicknesses in the range 0.4 mm ≤ a ≤ 6 mm. It supersedes EN 2087:2005 and is intended for aerospace applications where controlled chemistry, heat treatment and mechanical performance are required.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Material and form: Aluminium alloy AL‑P2014A, clad sheets and strips, rolled production.
- Thickness range: 0.4 mm to 6 mm (applicable sheet/strip gauges).
- Temper & delivery conditions: Delivery conditions include F, T4, T6. Use conditions are T6 or T62 with defined solution heat‑treatment and artificial ageing cycles.
- Solution: 500 °C ≤ θ ≤ 510 °C / water quench (WQ) θ ≤ 40 °C
- Ageing examples: +157 °C to 163 °C / 18–22 h or +170 °C to 180 °C / 7–12 h
- Mechanical properties (typical minima):
- Proof stress Rp0.2: about ≥ 345–355 MPa
- Tensile strength Rm: about ≥ 415–420 MPa
- Elongation A (A50 mm): ≥ 7–8%
- Cladding: Minimum cladding thickness on each face is typically 2–4% of total thickness, with greater cladding percentage for thinner gauges. Specified cladding materials include AL‑P1050A (or, by agreement, AL‑P1145) with very high aluminium content (~99.45–99.50%).
- Testing and inspection: Test sample, test piece, marking and dimensional inspections are performed in accordance with EN 4400-2 (normative reference) and related aerospace metallic material rules.
Practical applications and users
- Who uses EN 2087:2025: aerospace OEMs, tier suppliers, materials engineers, procurement and quality assurance teams, and design authorities specifying structural or skin components.
- Typical applications: aircraft skin, structural panels, strips for bonded or riveted assemblies where a high‑strength, clad aluminium alloy is required.
- Why use it: provides certified chemical, mechanical and heat‑treatment requirements to ensure consistency, traceability and compatibility with aerospace manufacturing and qualification programs.
