EN 13385:2002 (CEN) defines inspection requirements for transportable gas cylinders mounted as battery vehicles for permanent and liquefied gases (excluding acetylene). The standard specifies what must be checked before, during and after filling to ensure the mechanical integrity, correct filling, and safe handling of battery vehicles used to store and transport gases. Note: acetylene battery vehicles are excluded (see prEN 13720). The standard also does not cover automotive components of a battery trailer.

- With closable cylinder valves, fill only one cylinder or bundle at a time to prevent overfilling. Follow prescribed filling ratios and procedures.

- Vent and purge hose per manufacturer instructions before disconnection.
- Confirm no overfilling: for pressure fills, correct pressure vs reference temperature; for weight fills, verify gross weight vs maximum permissible filling weight using appropriate scales.
- Ensure correct gas/transport labeling, non-leaking main outlet valve, and removal of immobilising/earthing connections and loose equipment.
