This document specifies characterization tests to be performed at the end of the fabrication of an array probe. It defines both methodology and acceptance criteria.
This document is applicable to the following array probes used for ultrasonic non-destructive testing [phased array technique or signal processing technique, e.g. full-matrix capture (FMC) and total-focusing technique (TFM)] in contact technique (with or without a wedge or delay line) or in immersion technique, with centre frequencies in the range 0,5 MHz to 10 MHz:
a) array probes with elements in one direction:
— 1-D-linear array (linear array);
— 1-D-curved array;
— annular array;
b) array probes with elements in two directions:
— 2-D-array (matrix array);
— sectorial annular array;
— partial sectorial annular array.
This document does not give methods and acceptance criteria to characterize the performance of an ultrasonic phased array instrument or the performance of a complete system, which are given in ISO 18563–1 and in ISO 18563–3.

Dieses Dokument legt Abnahmeprüfungen fest, die nach der Herstellung eines Array-Prüfkopfes durchgeführt werden. Es legt sowohl die Vorgehensweise als auch die Zulässigkeitskriterien fest.
Dieses Dokument ist anwendbar für die folgenden Array Prüfköpfe, die für die zerstörungsfreie Prüfung mit Ultraschall (phasengesteuerte Array-Technik oder Signalverarbeitungstechnik, z. B. Erfassung der gesamten Matrix [FMC, en: full-matrix capture] und Technik der vollständigen Fokussierung [TFM, en: total-focusing technique]) mit Kontakttechnik (mit oder ohne Vorsatzkeil oder Vorlaufkörper) oder mit Tauchtechnik mit Mittenfrequenzen zwischen 0,5 MHz und 10 MHz verwendet werden:
a) Array Prüfköpfe mit Elementen in einer Richtung:
lineares 1 D Array (lineares Array);
gekrümmtes 1 D Array;
Ring Array;
b) Array Prüfköpfe mit Elementen in zwei Richtungen:
lineares 2 D Array (Matrix Array);
segmentiertes Ring Array;
segmentiertes partielles Ring Array.
Dieses Dokument enthält keine Verfahren und Zulässigkeitskriterien zur Charakterisierung der Leistung eines Phased-Array-Ultraschallgeräts oder der Leistung eines gesamten Systems, die in ISO 18563 1 und in ISO 18563 3 enthalten sind.

Le présent document spécifie les essais de caractérisation à effectuer à l'issue de la fabrication d'un traducteur multiélément. Il définit à la fois la méthodologie et les critères d'acceptation.
Le présent document s'applique aux traducteurs multiéléments utilisés pour les essais non destructifs par ultrasons [technique multiélément ou technique de traitement du signal, par exemple acquisition de la matrice complète (FMC) et focalisation en tous points (FTP)] selon la technique par contact (avec ou sans sabot ou ligne à retard) ou selon la technique par immersion, ayant une fréquence centrale comprise entre 0,5 MHz et 10 MHz:
a) traducteurs multiéléments avec des éléments dans une direction:
— réseau linéaire 1-D (réseau linéaire);
— réseau courbe 1-D;
— réseau annulaire;
b) traducteurs multiéléments avec des éléments dans deux directions:
— réseau 2-D (réseau matriciel);
— réseau annulaire sectorisé;
— réseau annulaire sectorisé partiel.
Le présent document ne fournit pas les méthodes et critères d'acceptation permettant de caractériser les performances d'un appareil de contrôle par ultrasons en multiéléments ni celles d'un système complet, qui sont indiqués dans l’ISO 18563-1 et l’ISO 18563-3.

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 18563-2:2017), which has been
technically revised.
The main changes are as follows:
— terminology and types of array probes modified according to ISO 23423;
— the wording ‘measurement’ is replaced by ‘determination’ or ‘evaluation’, where applicable.
