Tests for mechanical and physical properties of aggregates - Part 2: Methods for the determination of resistance to fragmentation

This standard specifies procedures for the determination of the resistance of coarse aggregate to fragmentation. Two methods are defined: a) The Los Angeles test (reference method) b) The impact test (alternative method). The impact test can be used as an alternative to the Los Angeles test but a correlation with the Los Angeles test should first be established to avoid double testing and ensure mutual recognition of results. The Los Angeles test (reference method) should be used in cases of dispute. The standard applies to natural or artificial aggregates used in building and civil engineering.
