Fireworks - Part 18: Hand-held fountains - Specification and test methods
This document specifies requirements for the construction, performance, primary packaging and labelling of hand-held fountains and the corresponding test methods. It is applicable to fireworks which are classified as hand-held fountains for outdoor use in Category 1 in EN 14035-2 and which are contained in a primary pack.
It is applicable to hand-held fountains for indoor use which are classified in Category 1 in EN 14035-2 and which contain pyrotechnic composition that is based on nitrocellulose with a mass fraction of not more than 12,6 % of nitrogen.
It is not applicable to hand-held fountains containing pyrotechnic composition that includes any of the following substances:
- arsenic or arsenic compounds;
- mixtures containing a mass fraction of chlorates greater than 80 %;
- mixtures of chlorates with metals;
- mixtures of chlorates with red phosphorus;
- mixtures of chlorates with potassium hexacyanoferrate(II);
- mixtures of chlorates with sulfur;
- mixtures of chlorates with sulfides;
- lead or lead compounds;
- mercury compounds;
- white phosphorus;
- picrates or picric acid;
- potassium chlorate with a mass fraction of bromates greater than 0,15 %;
- sulfur with an acidity, expressed as mass fraction of sulfuric acid, greater than 0,002 %;
- zirconium with a particle size of less than 40 mm.
NOTE In EN 14035-2, hand-held fountains are classified as follows:
- brief description: non-metallic case containing sparks and flame producing pyrotechnic composition and designed to be held in the hand;
- principal effects: emission of sparks and flames with or without aural effect other than report or whistle.

- principal effects: emission of sparks and flames with or without aural effect other than report or whistle.

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen an die Konstruktion, Funktion, Ursprungsverpackung und Beschriftung von
Handfontänen und die entsprechenden Prüfverfahren fest. Es gilt für Feuerwerkskörper, die als Handfontänen zur
Verwendung im Freien in die Kategorie 1 in EN 14035-2 eingruppiert sind und die sich in einer Ursprungsver-
packung befinden.
Es gilt für Handfontänen, die in die Kategorie 1 in EN 14035-2 eingruppiert sind und zur Verwendung in Räumen
bestimmt sind und in denen der pyrotechnische Satz als Hauptbestandteil Nitrocellulose mit einem Massenanteil an
Stickstoff von nicht mehr als 12,6 % enthält.
Es gilt nicht für Handfontänen, die pyrotechnischen Satz enthalten, in dem eine der nachfolgend aufgeführten
Substanzen enthalten ist:
� Arsen und Arsenverbindungen,
� Blei und Bleiverbindungen,
� Kaliumchlorat mit einem Massenanteil an Bromaten von mehr als 0,15 %,
� Mischungen mit einem Massenanteil an Chloraten von mehr als 80 %,
� Mischungen von Chloraten mit Metallen,
� Mischungen von Chloraten mit rotem Phosphor,
� Mischungen von Chloraten mit Kaliumhexacyanoferrat(II),
� Mischungen von Chloraten mit Schwefel,
� Mischungen von Chloraten mit Sulfiden,
� Pikrate und Pikrinsäure,
� Quecksilberverbindungen,
� weißer Phosphor,
� Schwefel mit einem Massenanteil an freier Säure (angegeben als H2SO4) von mehr als 0,002 %,
� Zirkon mit einer Korngröße von weniger als 40 µm.
ANMERKUNG In der EN 14035-2 sind Handfontänen wie folgt klassifiziert:
� Kurzbeschreibung: Nichtmetallische Hülse, die einen funken- und flammenerzeugenden pyrotechnischen Satz enthält und
zum Halten in der Hand vorgesehen ist;
� Hauptwirkungen: Erzeugung von Funken und Flammen mit oder ohne akustische Wirkung, außer Knall oder Pfeifen.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences relatives à la construction, aux performances, à l'emballage primaire et à l'étiquetage des fontaines à main, ainsi que les méthodes d'essai correspondantes. Elle s'applique aux artifices de divertissement classés fontaines à main d'extérieur de catégorie 1 dans l'EN 14035-2 et qui sont contenus dans un emballage primaire.
Elle s'applique dans le cas d'une fontaine à main d'intérieur classée dans la catégorie 1 dans l'EN 14035-2 et dont la composition pyrotechnique est basée sur la nitrocellulose contenant une fraction en masse inférieure ou égale 12,6 % d'azote.
Elle ne s'applique pas dans le cas d'une fontaine à main dont la composition pyrotechnique comprend l'une des substances suivantes :

NOTE Dans l'EN 14035-2, la fontaine à main est classée comme suit :
- description abrégée : enveloppe non métallique contenant une composition pyrotechnique produisant des étincelles et des flammes, conçue pour être tenue à la main ;
- effets principaux : émission d'étincelles et de flammes avec un effet sonore autre qu'un bruit ou un sifflement, ou sans effet sonore.

EN 14035-2, shall be the emission of sparks and flames with or without aural effect other than report or whistle. 5.3 Functioning When tested in accordance with 8.7 or 8.8, the hand-held fountain shall function completely. 5.4 Explosions and other failures When tested in accordance with 8.7 or 8.8, the hand-held fountain shall not produce an explosion or rupture during functioning. 5.5 Burning matter When tested in accordance with 8.7, the functioning of an indoor hand-held fountain shall not cause any holes in the test paper and shall not cause the test paper to catch fire. When tested in accordance with 8.8, no burning or incandescent matter from a hand-held outdoor fountain shall fall to the ground more than 1,0 m from the testing point. When tested in accordance with 8.7, any flames caused by the functioning of the indoor hand-held fountain shall be extinguished within 5,0 s of the hand-held fountain ceasing to function. When tested in accordance with 8.8, any flames caused by the functioning of the outdoor hand-held fountain shall be extinguished within 10,0 s of the hand-held fountain ceasing to function. 6 Primary pack The primary pack shall completely enclose the hand-held fountain(s) and there shall be no holes or splits in the pack. The primary packs of hand-held fountains with friction head shall be fitted with a striking surface. The striking surface on the pack shall be covered or the pack shall be sealed.

Record the duration of the initial fuse burning. Observe and record whether the hand-held fountain produced its principal effects. Observe and record whether the hand-held fountain explodes. After the hand-held fountain has ceased to function, start the timing device (8.7.3.1) immediately and record, whether any flames caused by the functioning of the hand-held fountain are extinguished within 5,0 s after the hand-held fountain has ceased to function.
