This European Standard specifies procedures for the practical measurement of the attenuation and variation in attenuation of optical fibre or optical cable (both hereafter referred to as fibre). Methods A and B are intended for fibre acceptance testing and shall be performed on fibre lengths greater than 1 km. Method C is intended for attenuation measurement required during environmental and mechanical testing and shall be performed on fibre lengths less than 100 m.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Verfahrensanweisungen für die praktische Messung der Dämpfung und
Dämpfungsschwankungen in Lichtwellenleitern oder optischen Leitungen fest (beide nachstehend Glasfaser
genannt). Verfahren A und B dienen zur Abnahmeprüfung für Glasfaserkabel und sind an Leitungslängen
über 1 km durchzuführen. Verfahren C dient zur Dämpfungsmessung, wie sie im Rahmen von Umgebungsund
mechanischen Proben erforderlich ist, und ist an Leitungslängen unter 100 m durchzuführen.

La présente Norme Européenne spécifie les procédures pour la mesure pratique de l'atténuation et la
variation de l'atténuation de la fibre optique ou du câble optique (tous deux étant considérés comme des
fibres). Les méthodes A et B sont destinées à l'essai de réception des fibres et doivent être effectuées sur des
longueurs de fibres supérieures à 1 km. La méthode C est destinée à la mesure de l'atténuation exigée durant
l'essai d'environnement et l'essai mécanique et doit être effectuée sur des longueurs de fibres inférieures à
100 m.

Ta evropski standard določa postopke za praktično merjenje slabljenja in sprememb v slabljenju optičnega vlakna ali optičnega kabla (v nadaljevanju oboje: »vlakna«). Metodi A in B sta namenjeni preskušanju sprejemljivosti vlakna in ju je treba uporabiti pri vlaknih, daljših od 1 km. Metoda C je namenjena merjenju slabljenja, ki je potrebno med okoljskim in mehanskim preskušanjem, ter jo je treba uporabiti pri vlaknih, krajših od 100 m.
