SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
Maps, automobile odometers, and highway and distance markers are not sufficiently accurate to describe the length of a route for tire testing purposes. The proposed procedure describes a test method for measuring the length of a road course with sufficient accuracy for tire testing purposes.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the accurate length measurement of road courses used for testing all types of pneumatic tires on various associated vehicles.  
1.2 This test method is intended for use on public highways or closed circuit test courses, or both, that cannot be measured practically by surveying techniques.  
1.3 Use of this test method requires that the surface of the test course to be measured shall be sufficiently smooth to preclude bounce or hop of the fifth wheel, which will affect the accuracy of the measurement. The normal highway surface is adequate for this test method.  
1.4 It is not the intent or scope of this test method to encompass distance measurements of test courses whose surfaces are irregular, broken up, jagged, etc., such as rock courses, Belgian block, "rumble" surfaces, etc. Snow- and ice-covered surfaces also are excluded.

Standard Test Method for Surrogate Testing of Vehicle Impact Protective Devices at Low Speeds

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method provides a procedure to establish a penetration rating for vehicle protective devices subjected to low-speed vehicle impact. Knowing the penetration rating provides the end user with the ability to select an appropriate protective device for site-specific conditions.  
5.2 The protective device penetration rating does not imply that a device will perform as rated in all site conditions, approach routes, and topography. Also, this test method requires that the specimen only be tested at a specific impact location and, therefore, not all locations of impact can be tested and validated for a penetration rating. Other impact locations may provide different penetration ratings.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method provides a range of impact speeds to be used with a 22 250-N [5000 lb] surrogate test vehicle. This test method establishes a range for penetration performance ratings. End users will be responsible for identifying the appropriate vehicle impact speed and penetration performance ratings in this test method that satisfies their specific needs.  
1.1.1 In addition, end users may assign certification ratings for vehicle protective devices based on the test methodologies described herein. Test parameters are standardized to arrive at a common vehicle weight, enhance test realism and replication, and produce uniform rating designations.  
1.1.2 The selected reference points for the vehicle protective devices are intended to protect assets on the protected side. Therefore, points of reference may vary from other standards.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This test method establishes a selected set of conditions of temperature, relative humidity and rate of evaporation of the environment to which a mortar specimen of stated composition shall be subjected for a specified period of time during which its change in length is determined and designated “drying shrinkage.”  
4.2 The drying shrinkage of mortar as determined by this test method has a linear relation to the drying shrinkage of concrete made with the same cement and exposed to the same drying conditions.4 Hence this test method may be used when it is desired to develop data on the effect of a hydraulic cement on the drying shrinkage of concrete made with that cement.

Standard Test Method for Determination of Draindown Characteristics in Uncompacted Asphalt Mixtures

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method can be used to determine whether the amount of draindown measured for a given asphalt mixture is within specified acceptable levels. The test provides an evaluation of the draindown potential of an asphalt mixture during mixture design and/or during field production. This test is primarily used for mixtures with high coarse aggregate content such as porous asphalt (open-graded friction course) and stone matrix asphalt (SMA).
Note 1: The quality of the results produced by this standard are dependent on the competence of the personnel performing the procedure and the capability, calibration, and maintenance of the equipment used. Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generally considered capable of competent and objective testing, sampling, inspection, etc. Users of this standard are cautioned that compliance with Specification D3666 alone does not completely ensure reliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors; following the suggestions of Specification D3666 or some similar acceptable guideline provides a means of evaluating and controlling some of those factors.

1.1 This test method covers the determination of the amount of draindown in an uncompacted asphalt mixture sample when the sample is held at elevated temperatures comparable to those encountered during the production, storage, transport, and placement of the mixture.
