Does not apply to the following machines for commercial and industrial use: floor treatment machines (EN 60335-2-67), spray extraction appliances (EN 60335-2-68), wet and dry vacuum cleaners (EN 60335-2-69).

This standard applies to hand-held rechargeable battery-powered, motor-operated or magnetically driven tools intended for indoor or outdoor use designed for use by one person and the battery packs for such tools including those intended to be charged from chargers with a non-isolated output with an output voltage of not more than 250 volts.
Battery operated tools which can be operated while connected to the mains shall also comply with EN 50144-1.
This Part 1 is to be used in conjunction with the appropriate Part 2, which contains clauses which supplement or modify the corresponding clauses in Part 1 to provide the complete requirement for each sort of tool.
It also applies, as far as is reasonable, to tools not mentioned in Part 2 and to those designed on basically new principles in which case additional requirements may be necessary.
This standard covers tools which can be used in a fixed support. Unless the requirement for such a support is given in a relevant Part 2, this standard alone will not be sufficient to ensure that the combination of tool and support is adequate.
Tools or battery packs incorporating battery chargers are also within the scope of this standard but such tools and packs are also required to comply with EN 60335-2-29.
This standard does not apply to:
-   tools used for preparing or processing food;    
-   tools used in explosive atmospheres.
It does not apply to a general purpose battery that may be purchased and installed by the user.

Deals with the safety of electric cleaning appliances for household use which are intended for cleaning surfaces such as windows, walls and empty swimming pools by using liquid cleansing agents, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. Note: -Appliances may incorporate heating elements or means for pressuring the liquid container.

Deals with the safety of electric sewing machines for household and similar use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. Overlock machines and electrical sets are within the scope of the standard.

Deals with the safety for vacuum cleaners and electric water suction cleaning appliances, for household and similar purposes, including vacuum cleaners for animal grooming whose rated voltage is not more than 250 V.

Deals with the safety of electric tumbler dryers intended for household and similar purposes whose rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.

This part of IEC 335 deals with the safety of electric oral hygiene appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being nor more than 250 V. Examples of appliances covered by this standard are tooth brushes and oral irrigators.

Deals with the safety of electric deep fat fryers, frying pans and other appliances, intended only for household use in which oil is used for cooking, their rated voltage being no more than 250 V.

Deals with the Safety of electric kitchen machines for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V (such as food mixers, mincers, food processors, knives, centrifugal juicers...)

Deals with the safety of shavers, hair clippers and similar appliances whose rated voltage is not more than 250 V.

Deals with the safety of electrical air-cleaning appliances for household and similar purposes whose rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.

Deals with the safety of electric floor treatment and wet scrubbing machines intended for household and similar purposes, whose rated voltage is not more than 250 V. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms fall within the scope of this standard. So far as practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by everyone in and around the home.

This standard applies to hand-held motor operated or magnetically driven tools intended for indoor or outdoor use designed for use by one person. This standard applies to a.c. tools having any frequency and d.c. tools. It does not apply to: battery operated tools; tools used for preparing or processing food; tools used in explosive atmospheres. This standard covers tools which can be used in a fixed support. Unless the requirement for such a support is given in a relevant Part 2, this standard alone will not be sufficient to ensure that the combination of tool and support is adequate. Tools with an electric heating element are within the scope of this standard. They should also comply with relevant Parts of EN 60335. Tools incorporating electronics components are within the scope of this standard and covered by annex B
