This document specifies a test method for determining the centre distance variation of V-belt and V‑ribbed belt drives as a criterion for the uniformity of V-belts and V-ribbed belts. This document does not apply to elastic V-ribbed belts.

ISO 1813:2014 specifies the maximum electrical resistance of antistatic endless V-ribbed belts, joined V-belts, and single V-belts including wide section belts and hexagonal belts, as well as corresponding production control and individual proof methods of measurements. The application of ISO 1813:2014 is limited to new belts intended to be used in an explosive atmosphere or in situations where there is a fire risk. The test is intended to ensure that the belt is sufficiently conductive to dissipate charges of electricity which can form on it in service.

ISO 1081:2013 specifies the terms and definitions, in English and French, relating to V-belt drives, V-belts, hexagonal belts, joined V-belts and the corresponding V-grooved pulleys, V-ribbed belt drives, V-ribbed belts and V-ribbed pulleys, as well as the corresponding symbols.The general definitions are valid irrespective of the system describing the pulleys. The dimensions of pulley grooves can be defined either on the basis of the datum width or on the basis of the effective width. As a result, two systems for the definition and description of the dimensions of pulleys and belts have been developed. The two systems are independent of each other.

This International Standard specifies the characteristics of quality which are common to all transmission pulleys. It establishes specific quality levels for the finish and balance of transmission pulleys and test pulleys. This International Standard is applicable to transmission pulleys for V-belts, V-ribbed belts, flat or synchronous belts; it does not apply to those pulleys for variable speed drives that have one or more moving flanges. The method specified applies to a single V-belt in a single pulley groove or to a joined V-belt in a multiple pulley. The location of the pitch zone is expressed as an effective line differential or a datum line differential, respectively. A hexagonal belt can be treated as a single V-belt.

The principle of the method specified is calculation of the pitch diameter of the belt operating in the pulley on a test fixture by measuring the rotational frequency of the pulley and either the belt velocity over a straight span or the centre distance between the pulleys and the time of rotation of the belt, and calculation of the effective line differential.
