ISO/TR 20694:2018 gives the general principles for language registers in both descriptive and prescriptive environments. It defines key concepts and describes examples of different language registers that can be applied across all or many languages and those that are language-specific. It lays down guidelines for the use of appropriate language registers needed in a wide range of environments. These include: - terminology work, where it contributes to the development of a wide range of standards; - translation, so that appropriate language levels can be chosen in target languages, to match that of the source language; - lexicography, to improve descriptors of non-geographic language variants; - second language teaching and learning, so that students can avoid pitfalls associated with inappropriate language use; - software, to improve tagging of language variants in computer applications.

ISO 24156-1:2014 gives guidelines for using a subset of UML symbols independent of their normal UML meaning, to represent concepts in concept models that result from concept analysis. It describes how UML symbols can be used for that. A UML profile designed for this purpose is used to represent concepts and concept relations in terminology work. ISO 24156-1:2014 does not describe UML and its general use in depth. These matters are covered in ISO/IEC 19505‑1 and ISO/IEC 19505‑2. ISO 24156-1:2014 does not describe the principles and methods of terminology work. This is covered in ISO 704. ISO 24156-1:2014 does not define the fundamental concepts of terminology work. This is covered in ISO 1087‑1.

ISO 704:2009 establishes the basic principles and methods for preparing and compiling terminologies both inside and outside the framework of standardization, and describes the links between objects, concepts, and their terminological representations. It also establishes general principles governing the formation of designations and the formulation of definitions. Full and complete understanding of these principles requires some background knowledge of terminology work. The principles are general in nature and this document is applicable to terminology work in scientific, technological, industrial, administrative and other fields of knowledge. ISO 704:2009 does not stipulate procedures for the layout of international terminology standards, which are treated in ISO 10241.

ISO/TR 24156:2008 gives guidelines for using a subset of the Unified Modeling Language, UML, to represent the results of terminological concept analysis. It describes how object modelling techniques can be used for this purpose. The representation of concepts and concept relations used in terminology work by corresponding entities in the UML is described. ISO/TR 24156:2008 does not describe the UML and its general use in depth. These matters are covered in e.g. ISO/IEC 19501. ISO/TR 24156:2008 does not describe the principles and methods of terminology work. This is covered in ISO 704.
