ISO/TC 162 - Doors, windows and curtain walling

This document specifies general terminology for windows and pedestrian doors.

This document provides definitions for terms used in documents, drawings, specifications, etc., when referring to the detailed elements of curtain walling. It provides a comprehensive, though not total, list of regular terms. It does not set out to repeat those physical definitions properly included within individual curtain walling standards related to performance requirements and associated test methods.

ISO 15822:2007 specifies the test method for evaluating the opening function of single-leaf doorset under in-plane diagonal deformation by in-plane static load.

ISO 15821:2007 specifies a test method for determining the water-tightness under dynamic pressure of doorsets and windows, assembled for normal use and installed as in practice. ISO 15821:2007 is applicable to areas subject to severe weather, e.g. that are heavily weather-beaten, stricken by driving rain and wind, including typhoons, hurricanes, cyclones and other severe climate. ISO 15821:2007 does not apply to the joints between the door or window frame and the building construction.

ISO 6442:2005 can be applied to all rectangular door leaves. ISO 6442:2005 specifies the method to be used to measure the deviations in general and local flatness of door leaves. In ISO 6442:2005, the concept of local flatness deviation is limited to defects considered to be prejudicial to the appearance of the door leaf.

ISO 6444:2005 describes the method which is to be used to test the behaviour under humidity variations of door leaves placed in successive uniform climates. ISO 6444:2005 can be applied to all door leaves, (e.g. solid doors, hollow core doors, panelled doors and glazed doors), which are nominally flat and rigid, and which contain hygroscopic materials can might influence their behaviour during this test.

ISO 9379:2005 is for hinged/pivoted and sliding doorsets with latches, for pedestrian use. ISO 9379:2005 defines the test methods to determine the forces to open/close doors and to engage/release and lock/unlock the hardware using a key or handle. ISO 9379:2005 is only applicable to the manual operation doorsets. The tests are applicable to doorsets of any material. ISO 9379:2005 is not applicable to the measurement of forces for doorsets with self closing devices engaged or to doorsets with special hardware e.g. emergency exit devices.

Determines the forces necessary for opening and closing Examines the reaction to tests simulating misuse and the efficiency of locking devices or registred opening devices. Tests are applied to windows supplied in the form of finished products and made of any material, in their normal conditions in which they are intended to be used in a finished building, bearing in mind the specified test conditions.

Applies to extenal and internal elements in ordinary buildings and houses, but do not apply to doors and doorsets in rooms with special atmospheres (such as doors to freezing rooms,etc.). The effect of humidity and/or temperature on the material as well as insufficient hygrothermal stability with respect to air penetration, sound insulation and operating force are measured and the change in the shape and dimensions determined. Four climate categories are specified.

The group of experts which has the problem of standardizing reproducible specifikations and tests covering the degree of burglar-proofness considered that the current state of information should be reported. Principles are indicated which may be used in establishing the strength so that htere are no weak points allowing the burglar to enter the dwelling easily. They apply to complete doorset with one or two leaves as supplied on side ready for installation.

Covers all elements, made of any material, with vertically hinged door leaves in the normal operating condition for which they are designed and installed. The test may be carried out on doorsets installed in a finished building or in a laboratory test rig. The horizontal force required for closing is used as a parameter for quanifying the operating performance. For terms and definitions see 1804. The test procedure is illustrated in a figure.

The procedure specified corresponds as closely as possible to that in ISO 6613. Applies to all elements, made of any material, to be fitted in exterior walls and supplied in the form of completely assembled and finished units. It does not apply to the joints between the doorsets and surrounding components and material. For further terms and definitions see ISO 1804.
