This standard - defines the essential parameters which describe the performance of the CT scanners with regard to image quality, patient dose and positioning; - defines the methods of testing the essential parameters; - evaluates compliance with the tolerances of the parameters specified by the accompanying documents. These methods rely mainly on non-invasive measurements, using appropriate test equipment, performed during the installation or after it has been completed. Signed statements covering steps in the installation procedure may be used as part of the acceptance test report. This part of IEC 61223 is intended to assist in performing the acceptance tests on a CT scanner. The aim is to verify compliance of the installation with specifications affecting the image quality, patient dose and positioning. The contents of the corrigendum of March 2006 have been included in this copy.

Applies to the performance of the acceptance test on dental X-ray equipment with intra-oral X-ray image receptor and dental X-ray equipment with extra-oral X-ray image receptor (for example, dental panoramic X-ray equipment or cephalometric X-ray equipment). Defines: - the essential parameters which describe the performance of the above-mentioned dental X-ray equipment with regard to imaging properties and patient dose; - methods of testing and wether measured quantities related to those parameters comply with the specified tolerances.

Applies to those components of X-ray equipment which influence the image quality in radiograms produced with mammographic X-ray equipment using intensifying screens with radiographic film for both contact and magnification modes of operation. Defines the essential parameters which describe the performance of the above-mentioned components of X-ray equipment with regard to imaging properties, and defines the methods of testing whether measured quantities related to those parameters comply with specified tolerances.

Applies to those components of X-ray equipment which influence the image quality and patient dose of diagnostic X-ray systems using radiographic and radioscopic imaging systems. Defines: - the parameters which describe the performance of X-ray equipment with regard to imaging properties and patient dose; - methods of testing wether measured quantities related to those parameters comply with the specific tolerances. The aim is to verify compliance of the installation with specifications relating to the image quality and patient dose, and to detect malfunctions that are not in agreement with those specifications.

Applies to those components of X-ray equipment which influence the image quality of equipment for digital subtraction angiography (DSA) with an imaging system consisting of an X-ray generation subsystem, a detection device comprising an X-ray image intensifier television chain, means of digitization and digital image processing, image storage and image manipulation including subtraction, and facilities for image display. Defines the essential parameters which describe the performance of the above-mentioned components of X-ray equipment with regard to imaging properties, and defines methods of testing whether measured quantities related to those parameters comply with specified tolerances.
