IEC 62629-62-11:2022 specifies the standard measuring conditions and measurement methods for determining the optical properties of the image created by 3D display devices and virtual-image optics such as head-up displays. The virtual image refers to an image in which the 3D visual information is superimposed with the outside world. Eye-wear type displays are however beyond the scope of this document.
NOTE The meaning of a virtual image in optics is in general an image formed when the outgoing rays from a point on an object always diverge. With regard to display application, a virtual image can be interpreted according to a real viewing case. When an image is viewed, even though there is no physical display (monitor, TV, screen), in front of a person's eyes, it is called virtual image.

IEC 62629-1-2:2021 is available as IEC 62629-1-2:2021 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.
IEC 62629-1-2:2021 provides a list of the terminologies that are frequently used in describing 3D display technologies in the -IEC 62629 series. Terms for various 3D display technologies on stereoscopic, autostereoscopic, volumetric, and :holographic displays are included. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- added new terms related to holographic display and light field display;
- added new terms on the performance specifications used in other IEC 62629 series documents;
- added Annex C to explain the depth perception in 3D displays in more detail.

IEC TR 62629-51-1:2020 (E), which is a Technical Report, provides general information for the standardization of aerial displays. This document includes an overview of the technology, critical performance characteristics, issues of optical measurements, and other information.

IEC 62629-12-2:2019 specifies the measuring methods of motion artifacts for stereoscopic displays using glasses. This document is applicable to stereoscopic displays using glasses, which consist of transmissive type active matrix liquid crystal display modules (without a post image processing).

IEC 62629-13-1:2017(E) specifies the visual inspection methods of ghost image. This document is applicable to stereoscopic displays using glasses.

IEC 62629-22-1:2016(E) specifies optical measuring methods for autostereoscopic display devices. It defines general measuring procedures for optical characteristics of two-view and multi-view displays and integral imaging displays. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) addition of offset crosstalk and 3D pixel crosstalk as 3D crosstalk related property.

IEC 62629-12-1:2014 determines the following measuring methods for characterizing the performance of stereoscopic display devices using either active or passive glasses. This standard focuses on the types of stereoscopic displays using glasses as follows:
The types of stereoscopic displays reproducing temporally interlaced images and applicable glasses are:
- displays representing temporally interlaced (high frame rate) images and active glasses (time dividing shutter glasses), and
- displays with front screen switchable polarizer representing temporally interlaced images and linear or circular polarizer passive glasses. The types of stereoscopic displays reproducing spatially interlaced images and applicable glasses are:
- displays with patterned retarder representing spatially interlaced images and linear or circular polarizer passive glasses. Some parts of these measuring methods may also be applied to other types of stereoscopic displays using glasses not listed above.
