ETSIETSIEN300152-1V1.2.2(2000-08)105Technicalrequirements5.1EPIRBtransmissioncharacteristicsWhenactivated,theEPIRBshalltransmitcontinuouslyoneitherthefrequency121,5MHzorthefrequencies121,5MHzand243MHz.TheclassofemissionshallbeA3XasdefinedinITU-RRecommendationM.690-1[1].However,thesignalmayincludeinformationoftheidentityoftheship.Ifincluded,thisinformationshouldbetransmittedautomaticallyandshallnotoccupymorethan20secondsinevery2minutesoftransmission.5.2EPIRBpowersource5.2.1BatteryrequirementsThebatteryprovidedasapowersourceshallbeaprimarybatteryandhavesufficientcapacitytooperatetheequipmentforanuninterruptedperiodofatleast24hours,orforman-overboarddevicesonly,atleast6hours,underalltemperatureconditions,(subclause6.6),withintherequirementsofthepresentdocument.6Generalconditionsofmeasurement6.1TestfrequenciesForthepurposeofconformitytesting,theEPIRBshallbeprovidedwiththefrequenciesspecifiedbytheadministrationofthecountryinwhichthetestiscarriedout.InthecaseofEPIRBsfittedwith121,5MHzand243MHz,twofrequenciesareapplicableandunlessotherwisestated,testsshallbecarriedoutonbothfrequencies.6.2TestfixtureThetestfixtureisaradiofrequencycouplingdevicewithanintegralantennaequipmentforcouplingtheintegralantennatoa50Ωradiofrequencyterminalattheworkingfrequenciesoftheequipmentundertest.Thisallowscertainmeasurementstobeperformedusingtheconductedmeasurementmethods.Onlyrelativemeasurementsshallbeperformedandonlythoseatornearfrequenciesforwhichthetestfixturehasbeencalibrated.Thetestfixturenormallyshallbeprovidedbythemanufacturer.Theperformancecharacteristicsofthetestfixtureshallbeapprovedbythetestinglaboratoryandshallconformtothefollowingbasicparameters:a)thecouplinglossshallnotbegreaterthan30dB;b)acouplinglossvariationoverthefrequencyrangeusedinthemeasurementwhichdoesnotexceed2dB;c)circuitryassociatedwiththeRadioFrequency(RF)couplingshallcontainnoactiveornonlineardevices;d)theVSWRatthe50Ωsocketshallnotbegreaterthan1,5overthefrequencyrangeofthemeasurements;e)thecouplinglossshallbeindependentofthepositionofthetestfixtureandbeunaffectedbytheproximityofsurroundingobjectsorpeople.Thecouplinglossshallbereproduciblewhentheequipmentundertestisremovedandreplaced;f)thecouplinglossshallremainsubstantiallyconstantwhentheenvironmentalconditionsarevaried.Anyconnectionsprovidedontheequipmentinordertofacilitaterelativemeasurementsshallnotaffecttheperformanceoftheequipment,neitherinthetestfixturenorwhenmakingmeasurementsinvolvingtheuseofradiatedfields.SIST EN 300 152-1 V1.2.2:2003

ETSIETSIEN300152-1V1.2.2(2000-08)137Environmentaltests7.1IntroductionTherequirementsofclause7demonstratethattheequipmentiscapableofcontinuousoperationundertheconditionsofvariousseastates,vibration,humidityandchangeoftemperaturelikelytobeexperiencedonashipinwhichitiscarried.7.2ProcedureEnvironmentaltestsshallbecarriedoutbeforetestsinrespectoftheotherrequirementsinthepresentdocumentareperformedonthesameequipment.7.3PerformancecheckThetermperformancecheckasusedinthepresentdocumentshallbetakentomeanacheckof:-Frequencyerror:thecarrierfrequency121,5MHzshallbemeasuredwiththeequipmentplacedinthetestfixture(subclause6.2).Thefrequencyerrorshallnotexceed±3,5kHz.-Maximumeffectiveradiatedpeakenvelopepower:theoutputpowershallbemeasuredwiththeequipmentplacedinthetestfixture(subclause6.2).Themeasuredpowercorrectedwiththereferencefactor(subclause8.4.3)shallbeatleast75mW,andinthecaseofman-overboarddevicesonly,shallbeatleast25mW.Theperformancecheckshallbecarriedoutonlyundernormaltestconditionsunlessotherwisestated.7.4Droptest7.4.1DefinitionTheimmunityagainsttheeffectsofdroppingistheabilityoftheequipmenttomaintainthespecifiedmechanicalandelectricalperformanceafterbeingsubjectedtoaseriesofdropsonahardwoodentestsurface.7.4.2TestconditionsDuringthetest,theequipmentshallbefittedwithasuitablesetofbatteriesandantennabutitshallbeswitchedoff.Thetestshallbecarriedoutundernormaltemperatureandhumidityconditionsasdetailedinsubclause6.5.1.Thehardwoodentestsurfaceshallconsistofapieceofsolidhardwoodwithaminimumthicknessof15cmandamassofatleast30kilograms.Theheightofthelowestpartoftheequipmentundertest,relativetothetestsurfaceatthemomentofrelease,shallbe1m.Equipmentshallbesubjectedtothistestintheconfigurationasitisnormallyusedinoperationalcircumstances.7.4.3MethodofmeasurementThetestshallconsistofsixdrops,onceoneachface.7.4.4RequirementsInspectionformechanicaldamage,bothinternalandexternal,shallbecarriedoutaftercompletionoftests.Anydamageshallnotimpairtheoperationoftheequipment.Inparticular,partslikeknobs,switchesandtheantennashalloperateinthenormalmanner.Theactofdroppingshallnotcausetheequipmenttooperate.SIST EN 300 152-1 V1.2.2:2003
